Accountable to: Steering Committee of Parenting in Africa Network (PAN)



Type of Contract: Renewable fixed term of one year

Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya



Job Purpose



The Senior Program Manager will lead and coordinate the development and implementation of the activities of the Parenting in Africa Network (PAN) under the overall supervision of the steering committee of the Parenting in Africa Network (PAN) and in close consultation with The African Child Policy Forum (ACPF) and the Africa Regional office of International Child Support (ICS).



Responsibilities



1. Programme Planning, Coordination and Implementation:



•Effectively coordinate activities of the Parenting in Africa Network

•Develop Pan-African projects that contribute to the realization of the Network’s objectives.

•Prepare or supervise the preparation of project proposals in order to mobilize the required resources.

•Develop annual operational plans and manage the budget allocated to the Secretariat ensuring that agreed results are delivered in time and within the budget available.

•Actively participate in the development of parenting advocacy strategy and implement the Network’s advocacy programs and materials.

2. Programme Support:



•Ensure preparation of relevant information notes and documentation of the project.

•Ensure sufficient and timely flow of information and report to the steering committee, partner institutions and members of the network.

•Prepare progress reports and compile the required financial plans and reports to donors and partners

•Actively participate in the development, maintenance and operation of the “Parenting in Africa” website to provide a platform for interaction amongst member and interested organizations and individuals.

3. Liaison with network partners



•Maintain an efficient partnership between ACPF, ICS and member organizations.

•Develop and maintain productive relationships with Pan-African Institutions including the AU, civil society and bilateral and multilateral organizations.

•Manage other non-financial resources of the secretariat.

•Organize annual meetings amongst the members of the Network.

•Organize regional workshops and conferences on Parenting

•Represent the Network in regional and continental fora and serve as a focal person for the Network.

4. Internal Operations



•Identify and recruit additional staff members to the Secretariat

•Coordinate and manage the day to day activities and staff of the Secretariat.

5. Undertake any other tasks needed to promote the Network’s objectives and work, and as directed by the Steering Committee



Requirements



•University degree in one of the following fields; Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Health, Education or other related field

•Minimum of 4 years working experience, ideally in an NGO environment.

•Demonstrate knowledge and experience of all aspects of programme and project management.

•Good command of the English language (both written and oral)

•Ability to understand and work with project budgets, forecasts and reports.

•Excellent computer skills especially word-processing, spreadsheets and email
