The World Agroforestry Centre, a CGIAR Consortium Research Centre, is an independent research institution, which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role that trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, which hosts African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), a preferred service provider of the CGIAR. AWARD is a career-development program that equips top women agricultural scientists across sub-Saharan Africa to accelerate agricultural gains by strengthening their research and leadership skills, through tailored fellowships.
AWARD is a catalyst for innovations with high potential to contribute to the prosperity and well-being of African smallholder farmers, most of whom are women.
Since 2008, 320 women agricultural scientists from 11 sub-Saharan African countries (Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia) have benefited from AWARD’s successful career-development fellowships. AWARD recently launched a pilot program benefiting five women from selected francophone African countries (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, and Senegal).The System Analyst / Coder and Website Technician will support AWARD’s Monitoring and Evaluation Department, as well as the Communications Unit, with technical innovations to strengthen the management and communication of AWARD’s data and information to internal and external stakeholders. This position offers a rich challenge and opportunity for a skilled, motivated coder/programmer to design and develop innovative and interactive database driven system of data collection forms, SQL databases, online data entry, retrieval, and analyses applications. Works with AWARD staff to design, develop, test, and maintain data and information management applications for both intranet and internet, allowing efficient, entry, retrieval, and analyses of AWARD’s monitoring data.Designs, develops, tests, and maintains both intranet and internet sites using ASP.NET, VB.NET, ASP, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, JQuery, XML, SQL PHP, and other technologies required.Assists in design and coding of interactive forms on the Adobe platform to make AWARD’s data collection process more efficient, effective, and powerful.Designs and maintains SQL Server database(s) to store and manage monitoring data, and connect SQL Server database(s) to AWARD’s online M&E dashboard system, providing dynamic charts and maps using PHP and XML (using FusionCharts suite).Develops online system for AWARD staff to access, enter, and query monitoring data and generate data-rich and meaningful reports.Develops and maintains systems to support internal automation/communication/processes.A minimum of an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, Analytics, or related degree.Minimum five years’ experience working with SQL Server including experience with stored procedures, views, functions, performance tuning, complex joins, and security.Minimum five years’ experience developing web-based solutions, using technologies such as ASP.NET, VB.NET, ASP, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, PHP, JQuery, and XML.Advanced/expert experience working with Joomla CMS (Version 1.5 and above), including building custom templates and extensions as required.Experience using Survey software/services to conduct polls and surveys, including generating relevant reports.Strong coding and programming background, and extensive experience in data management and analyses, both quantitative and qualitative.Advanced knowledge of PHP web scripting language.Advanced knowledge of the LAMP stack (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP).Intermediate experience using JQuery, CSS/CSS3 and HTML5.Advanced image editing using Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Fireworks.Working knowledge of CPanel hosting and configuring/using FTP clients.Intermediate knowledge of the ZEND framework.Working knowledge of HTML Email Templates, especially MailChimp.Analytical ability to delve into detail while maintaining a broader business perspective, ideally evidenced by relevant hands-on experience delivering analytic solutions to organizations.Minimum two years’ experience developing interactive forms on the Adobe platform.Proficient in .NET framework and Visual Studio.Strong analytical and data reporting skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate complex technical concepts and ideas in non-technical terms.The World Agroforestry Centre is an equal opportunity employer and offers a collegial and gender-sensitive working environment. We believe that staff diversity promotes excellence and strongly encourage applications from qualified women. This position is on local terms and will be for an initial period of three (3) years, renewable subject to six (6) months’ probation period, assessment of performance, continued relevance of the position, and availability of resources.

Applicants should be Kenyan citizens with a degree in Engineering, Architecture, Surveying, Building Economy or Land Economy from a recognized university.
They should in addition posses the relevant post graduate and professional qualifications. They should be team-builders with demonstrable leadership and communication skills and have at least ten years administrative experience, seven of which at a senior level in a large educational institution or Government Department. They must be registered with their respective registration boards and be computer literate.Grade XIV (REF/NO. The Chief Accountant shall be responsible to the Finance Officer and Management for accounting functions including administration of income and expenditure, payroll, credit and debt accounts, and financial reporting.
Applicants should be Kenyan citizens with a degree in accounting, finance or economics, together with relevant postgraduate qualifications from a recognized university. They must, in addition be qualified accountants holding CPA (K) and be registered members of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.

Job Title: Fiber Splicing Technician

Summary

The Fiber Splicing Technician is a position working for the Director of Engineering and Construction to support the all splicing requirements in the company, area as well as other fiber based markets.  The Fiber Splicer must have the ability to perform fiber optic splicing as well as understand engineering and splicing drawings.  

This person must possess strong project management skills, knowledge of construction practices for Outside Plant cable placement, and sufficient experience with computers to update drawings and have a background in Fiber Optic splicing documentation practices.  The person must have telecommunications experience and the ability to travel as required. 
 Ability to fusion or mechanical splice SM or MM fiber optic cables, to include terminate various types of fiber optic connectors (ST,SC, LC)Work with engineers and/or OSP PM’s to perform fusion splicing as directed.Installation and testing of pressurized and non-pressurized closures on all types and sizes of cable.Develop standards and specifications for splice drawings and prepare drawing per the specifications.Experience and knowledge using Fiber Optic Scope and or a Fiber OTDR.Installation and dressing of fiber optic cables (vertical/horizontal).Serve as a resource to the internal staff on matters concerning splicing practices and procedures.Develop splicing diagrams and designs to facilitate network architecture.Provide management with detailed reports of field splicing activity.Maintain fiber asset inventory and splicing records.Manage multiple projects at one time.Organize splicing as-builds files utilizing software packages for in-house fiber cable inventory and route designs.Communicate with Project Manager and Team Leader on workload status in order to meet designated goals.Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic that can provide high productivity with minimal supervisionMust have 1+ years of splicing experience.Education Level: High School/Some College Preferred.Overnight and frequent travel as required.Field Of Study: Drafting, Electronics or Telecommunications.Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented.Ability to interact effectively with other team members.Excellent skills in Outlook, Excel and MS Word.Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and quickly changing work environment with strict deadlines.Must be able to work independently without supervision.A combination of education and experience is acceptable.Work Environment

Main Responsibilities

2. Apprentice Electrical and Instrumentation Technician

Main Responsibilities
  • To diagnose Electrical and Instrumentation faults and breakdowns and implement time critical repairs

3. Procurement Assistant

Main Responsibilities

To assist the Procurement Manager in:-
  • Procurement of Corn and firewood
  • Raising of purchase orders for supplies including maize and firewood and services needed in the organization
  • Carry out evaluation and appraisal of existing as well as potential suppliers
  • Update supplier database
  • Dispatch authorized orders to suppliers and follow up outstanding orders for transport, fuel supply, milk, etc.
  • Expedite on delivery of goods and services from suppliers to ensure on time delivery of goods.
  • Distribution and filing of orders
  • Any other duties assigned by the superiors.
Requirements/Qualifications
  • A business related University Degree
  • CIPS Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies

  • Participate in WCM autonomous maintenance activities or other related projects.
  • Run improvement teams and implement standards from other teams.
  • Take part in 5S activities at the machine area.
  • Approve job produced and ascertain quality of the material as per quality standard specification.
Skills and Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years practical experience in manufacturing/printing environment
