The Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board (on behalf of Ministry of Energy & Petroleum)in collaboration with the University of Nairobi is offering fifteen (15) Master of Science Scholarships to eligible Kenyans to pursue the Master of Nuclear Science offered at the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology, University of Nairobi.

The scholarships are open to holders of at least a Bachelor of Science degree (Upper Second Class Honours) or equivalent in the field of Engineering or Physical Sciences disciplines from a recognized University.In addition, the applicant must have a letter of eligibility of admission for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Nairobi.The course is on fulltime basis and takes two (2) yearsBoth hard and soft copies of the applications should be forwarded to:

Rhodes Scholarships for International Students at University of Oxford in UK, 2014


type="html">Each year, Rhodes scholarships are awarded for pursuing full-time postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford, UK. 83 Rhodes scholars are selected annually from 14 countries or groupings of countries around the world. Each scholarship covers all University and College fees, a personal stipend and one economy class airfare to Oxford at the start of the scholarship, as well as an economy flight back to the student’s home country at the conclusion of the scholarship. Applications are open for 2014 round with different deadlines for each country.

Study Subject(s): These scholarships are awarded to study any course offered by the University of Oxford at postgraduate level.
Course Level: Rhodes Scholars may read for any full-time postgraduate degree (including the BA with senior status over two years) at the University of Oxford.

Eligibility: The following eligibility criteria apply to all applicants for the Rhodes Scholarships:
Citizenship & residency: Each applicant must fulfill the citizenship and residency requirements of the Rhodes constituency for which they are applying.  Please check the detailed information carefully via the country links.
Age: Age limits vary between constituencies and range from a minimum age limit of 18 to a maximum of 28 by 1 October of the year following selection. In most constituencies, the age limit is 24 or 25. Please check carefully the specific age requirements for your constituency before applying.  Successful candidates will arrive in Oxford the October following the selection process.  The Scholarship may not normally be deferred.


Education: All applicants must have achieved academic standing sufficiently advanced to assure completion of a bachelor’s degree by the October following election. Academic standing must be sufficiently high to ensure admission to the University of Oxford, which has very competitive entry requirements, and to give confidence that Rhodes Scholars will perform to a high academic standard in Oxford. Individual constituencies may specify a 1st or equivalent. Please check the detailed requirements via the country links.  Some constituencies require an undergraduate degree to have been taken within the constituency of application.


Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: Students of Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica & the Commonwealth Caribbean, Kenya, New Zealand, Pakistan, Southern Africa (including South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia and Swaziland), United States, Zambia and Zimbabwe can apply for these scholarships.

Scholarship Description: The Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards supporting outstanding all-round students at the University of Oxford, and providing transformative opportunities for exceptional individuals. Rhodes scholarship selection committees will be seeking young women and men of outstanding intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service.  The Rhodes Scholarships support students who demonstrate a strong propensity to emerge as ‘leaders for the world’s future’. A Rhodes scholarship covers all University and College fees, a personal stipend and one economy class airfare to Oxford at the start of the Scholarship, as well as an economy flight back to the student’s home country at the conclusion of the Scholarship.

Number of award(s): 83 Rhodes Scholars are selected annually from 14 countries or groupings of countries around the world.

Duration of award(s): The basic tenure of the Scholarship is two years, subject always, and at all times, to satisfactory academic performance and personal conduct. At the discretion of the Trustees, the Scholarship may be extended for a third year for those who take a recognized route to the DPhil.  The Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and the Masters of Financial Economics (MFE) are only tenable in the second year of the Scholarship.

What does it cover? A Rhodes scholarship covers all University and College fees, a personal stipend and one economy class airfare to Oxford at the start of the Scholarship, as well as an economy flight back to the student’s home country at the conclusion of the Scholarship.

Selection Criteria: Four criteria to be used in the election of Scholars:
-literary and scholastic attainments
-energy to use one’s talents to the full
-truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship
-moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one’s fellow beings.
In short, Rhodes scholarship selection committees will be seeking young women and men of outstanding intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service.


How to Apply: For detailed application requirements for each constituency, please visit the country pages via the country links.  In broad terms, all constituencies will require the following materials in differing forms:
Evidence of academic record / transcript (complete or in progress) of undergraduate degree and any postgraduate study
Curriculum vitae/resumé or list of principal activities
Personal statement or essay (including, crucially, a clear statement of what the applicant wishes to study at Oxford and why)
Evidence of age / birth certificate / passport
English Language proficiency (where English is not the first language)
Photograph
List of referees (usually several are required) who can attest in confidential references to the character and intellect of the applicant, including academic, personal, extra-curricular and leadership achievements (and who should never include people to whom you are related).

The People’s Republic of China 45 full scholarships to Kenyans for the 2012/2013 academic year

The People’s Republic of China is offering 45 full scholarships to Kenyans for undergraduate and postgraduate for the 2012/2013 academic year.

Ten (10) of the scholarships are for bachelors, Twenty (20) for masters and Fifteen (15) are PhD programmes.

The Areas of study are in the field of Engineering, Sciences, Technology and Medicine.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

A. Undergraduate
  • Minimum KCSE Mean Grade of B (plain).
  • Not more than 25 years of age.
  • Strong grades on the major subjects that are key to the specialty preferred
  • Completed Secondary Education in the last three (3) years.
  • Has KCSE certificate
B. Post Graduate
  • Are serving the country in the public sector.
  • Completed two (2) years of continuous public service since their last degree studies.
  • Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree of at least Upper Second class honors level.
  • PhD, applicants must have a relevant Master’s Degree.
  • Are below 35 years for Masters and 40 years for PhD

The Government of South Korea is offering two (2) scholarships to Kenyan students in the areas of Engineering and Technology.

Eligibility

The applicant should be:

(i) Holders of a minimum of KCSE grade B+ (plus) with a strong grade in the subjects relevant to the desired course (preferably A).

(ii) Under 23 years of age

(iii) Those who have completed school three years ago and have original KCSE certificate

Conditions for the Scholarships
  • Nominees shall be required to take a preliminary Korean language course for one (1) year
  • Applicants should not have enrolled at a Korean University before.

Commonwealth Scholarships Tenable in the United Kingdom – 2012/2013

Advert for Commonwealth Scholarships Tenable in the United Kingdom – 2012/2013

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom is offering Fourteen (14) full scholarships for postgraduate students; masters (7) and PhD(7) for Kenyan students tenable in UK institutions of higher learning.

Priority will be given to studies that are especially along the following themes: Building our common future, Global economic growth, Climate Change, Fragile and conflict affected States, International institutional reform.

Duration of Scholarships
  • One (1) year taught Masters Courses
  • Six (6) months of clinical training in medicine or dentistry
  • Doctoral Degrees of up to three (3) years. (Candidates may undertake fieldwork in Kenya)
  • One (1) year research on a split-site basis towards a PhD registered at a Kenyan university
Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following conditions:
  • For Masters Scholarship, be holder of bachelors degree of at least upper 2nd class honors.
  • For PhD scholarship, be a holder of a very good Master’s Degree
  • Are serving the country in the public sector.
  • Are below 35 years for masters and 45 years for PhD

7. Complete the Electronic Application system (EAS) form online BUT download and print three (3) sets before submitting it electronically to the Commonwealth Commission

8. Submit one (1) set of the hard copy of completed EAS form through your head of department to the Directorate of Higher Education on the address indicated above

Postgraduate Scholarship: 2011/2012 Academic Year - University of Nairobi Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Fund


The Gandhi Smarak Nidhi fund will offer a limited number of partial scholarships tenable at the University of Nairobi, for Masters and Postgraduate Diploma studies during the 2011/2012 academic year.

Interested candidates are invited to apply for the scholarship by filling in a formal application/re-application form available in Room A112 Administration Block, Main Campus after presenting a receipt of a non-refundable application fees of Kenya Shillings Five Hundred Only (KShs. 500.00).

This amount should be deposited into the University of Nairobi Account Number: 03-094-8245531, Barclays Bank of Kenya - Queensway House Branch at any Barclays Bank of Kenya branch. The bank deposit slip should then be taken to the Student Finance Office (Room G4), for
receipting.

Applicants must attach to the completed form a letter of offer (Notice of eligibility) to study at the University of Nairobi for a Masters or Postgraduate Diploma programme (not PhD) and must have attained at least an Upper Second Class Honours or its equivalent at Bachelors Level.

Aga Khan Foundation (East Africa) Scholarship Opportunity


The Aga Khan Foundation, in collaboration with the Institute of Education, University of London, is pleased to invite applications for the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships, awarded by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom.

The Scholarships are open to prospective students from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda wishing to undertake the Institute of Education’s MA in Education and International Development, MA in Educational Planning, Economics and International Development, MA in Education, Health Promotion and International Development or MA in Education, Gender and International Development beginning in October, 2011.

The Scholarship is for 2 years of part time distance learning programme. Students will spend the first year and one term studying on-line followed by a three month period of study at the Institute of Education in London (January to March 2013) and a period to complete their dissertations in their home countries.

The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition fees for the course, travel expenses and living expenses for the period of study in London.

Eligibility Criteria
  • A degree course from a recognised university in education, economics, development or related studies – minimum 2nd Upper Class
  • Prospective students must be citizens and residents of Kenya, Uganda or Tanzania
  • Relevant experience in a developing country context
  • Must be proficient in English language (shortlisted applicants may be required to do an English language proficiency exam)

The Rhodes Scholarships at Oxford University



Every year, scholars from 14 countries around the world including two from Kenya, earn the privilege of becoming Rhodes Scholars by demonstrating their outstanding intellectual and academic ability, integrity of character, strong leadership abilities, energy and drive, and their commitment to public service.

The Rhodes Scholarships offer full funding for two years study and are tenable only for full time post graduate study at the University of Oxford.

Scholarships 2011 Kenyatta University

OVS Scholarships

Kenyatta University is offering Two (2) Scholarships for Orphans and Vulnerable Students(OVS) from Kenya seeking to pursue undergraduate degrees at KU.

The scholarships will cover the full tuition cost beginning the academic year 2011/2012 for OVS who have already been admitted to KU programmes.

Requirements: Minimum C+ Mean grade in 2009 or 2010 KCSE.

OVS Scholarships for Continuing Students

There are Ten (10) Partial Scholarships for tuition for full time students already in session at KU for the year beginning September 2011/2012.

The scholarship will cover 40% tuition costs beginning the academic year 2011/2012 for students with proven high performance and genuine need of financial assistance.

RUSA Scholarships

There are Ten (10) Partial Scholarship for tuition for full time students who must have been in session in the previous semester.

The scholarship will cover 25% tuition costs beginning the academic year September 2011/2012 for students with proven high performance and genuine need of financial assistance.

HELB Postgraduate Scholarships 2011/2012 Financial Year


The Higher Education Loans Board is a state corporation mandated to finance Kenyans pursuing higher education in recognized institutions through provision of loans, bursaries and scholarships.

It is also charged with the responsibility of recovering loaned out funds to university students to create a revolving fund which will enable it meet its mandate.

Postgraduate students enrolled in Kenyan public or private universities recognized by the Commission for Higher Education (CHE), are invited to apply for consideration for Masters and PhD scholarship for the 2011/2012 academic year.

Masters students will qualify for a scholarship worth Kshs 200,000 tenable over two academic years, while PhD candidates will qualify for Kshs 450,000 tenable over three academic years.

Requirements for Scholarship
  • Minimum of second class upper division;
  • Admission to a local public or private university recognized by CHE;
  • Reporting for 1st year of study in 2011;
  • Age 30 years below for Masters;
  • 40 years or below for PhD.

China Government 2011 / 2012 Scholarships for Kenyans

The China Government is offering twenty nine (29) scholarships to Kenyans in both undergraduate and post graduate studies.

They are in the following categories:
  • Undergraduates : 13
  • Postgraduates : 16
Eligibility

Undergraduate: Studies in Engineering and Medicine
  • Minimum KCSE mean grade of B+ with a minimum of grade ‘B’ in Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry
  • Not more than 23 years of age.
  • Only those candidates who completed secondary education in the last 3 years need apply.
Postgraduate: Studies in Engineering, Medicine, Computer Science and Pharmacy.

Eligible candidates are only those who:

Senior Fellowship in Clinical Trials
University of Nairobi, Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative (KAVI)

University of Nairobi, Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative (KAVI) and International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is offering one (1) full scholarship for a senior fellowship training program in clinical trials.

The training consists of course work and practical experience in Kenya and Partner Institutions abroad.

The scholarship runs for 2 years and covers tuition fees, travel, accommodation and stipend.

Purpose of the Grant

The objective of this grant is to build clinical trial capacity by empowering health care professional with the skills required to conduct clinical trials in the region. The focus of the training will be in the areas of epidemiology, research design, research ethics, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and data management.

Selection criteria:

Applicants should be:-
  • Kenyan National
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in medicine and at least three years working experience in clinical research. MPH students or degree holders will have an added advantage
  • Be willing to travel abroad for placement for several months for the course work.
  • An interest and/or previous experience in HIV vaccine research will be an added advantage.

Scholarships for Masters Degree Program - Year 2011

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia is offering full scholarships for postgraduate at Masters Level for year 2011 to Kenyans. The three (3) year program consists of one a (1) year Indonesian language course and preparatory programs and two (2) years of study for the Masters program.

The scholarships will be offered to students enrolling in Indonesian Higher education Institutions.

The areas of study that will be supported include:
  1. Humanities
  2. Sciences
  3. Agricultural sciences
  4. Social Sciences
  5. Engineering
  6. Education
  7. Multi-disciplinary Studies
Research

Research in the framework of the graduate program will be undertaken in Indonesia. If carried out elsewhere, all the costs of the research will be borne by the respective student.

Language

All lectures and thesis writing will be in the Indonesian language.

Duration of Scholarships

This is a three (3) year program which constitutes;
  • One (1) year study of Indonesian language and preparatory programs
  • Two (2) years of study for the Masters program.
Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following conditions:
  • Should be holders of a Bachelors Degree of upper 2nd class Honours
  • Are employed in the public sector.
  • Are below 35 years of age.
  • Has a TOEFL score of 450 or equivalent.
