Save the Children Nutrition Coordinator Job in Wajir Kenya

Role Purpose: Under the supervision of the Health and Nutrition Manager, the incumbent will coordinate the overall implementation of the nutrition capacity building project in Wajir South ensuring all components of the programme are functioning properly, providing quality care to all the patients/beneficiaries through respecting protocols and principles of good practice.

Scope of Role:

Reports to: Health and Nutrition Programme Manager

Dimensions: Save the Children has been operational in Kenya since 1984, providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered both directly and through local partners. 

Current programming focuses on Child Protection, Child rights governance, Education, Health, HIV/AIDS, Livelihoods, Nutrition and WASH. Save the Children has an operational presence in Dadaab Refugee Camp, Eldoret, Habaswein, Mandera, Meru and Wajir. Currently we have a staff complement of approximately 370 and expenditure of approximately US$ 30 million in 2012.

Staff directly reporting to this post: Nutrition Officer, Community Mobilizer

Key Areas of Accountability:

1. To ensure the nutrition program is implemented according to the approved donor agreements.

Overall responsible for the day-to-day coordination of project activities and staff (Nutrition Officer and Mobilizers) management. Spearhead the capacity building activities; In liaison with health and nutrition program manager identify MoH personnel, partner NNGOs or INGOs for collaboration of nutrition activities and/or technical training for management of acute malnutrition according to the national protocol.Organize and carry out nutrition trainings for MOH staff, community health workers and volunteer groups on management of acute malnutrition both moderate and severe.Follow up and provide ongoing technical support (on job training) to the activities of the trained MOH team at the health facility. The volunteers to be trained are health facility management and village health committees (FHM/VHC)To participate the evaluation of these activities, and to propose recommendations to develop future capacity building strategies for SC.Coordinate closely with the District Health Management Team for the start and quality implementation of IMAM in the district through the existing health facilities and the nomadic clinic. Provide technical guidance to support MoH and SC staff in implementation of OTP/SFP at the health facilities. Ensure all staff understand and implement programme protocols in line with the donor approved agreementEnsure the trained health workers are carrying out appropriate and consistent health and nutrition education messaging to mothers and other carers at health facilities where OTP/SFP are implemented. Coordinate quality quarterly and one national supervision jointly with the MOH district health team and collaborating partners (UN WFP, UNOP and COCOP) Ensure the district nutritionist provides satisfactory monthly stock consumption reports, supplies request and the distribution plan for the following.  Conduct evaluation and appraisal of staff Provide the district’s systematic treatment/ essential drugs and the immunization reports on monthly basis.Initiate and participate in health and nutrition monthly coordination meetings in the district and link where necessary other stakeholders (UN WFP, UNOP and ALRMP)Liaise with other implementing partners and local authorities to maximize collaboration and ensure proper coordination of activities Regularly undertake liaison and advocacy with Government partners and officials in your district on project activities and related nutrition issues.  Facilitate visits to field sites for donor representatives and other external visitors as required.  Be able to clearly explain project activities and objectives, related policy issues and the project’s contribution to wider SC goals and objectivesLead and motivate the Nutrition team (Nutrition Officer and Mobilizers) to ensure effective project implementation and conduct monthly team meetings. Participate in the development of detail implementation plan for the project that provides the overall framework for activities implementation. Participate in the design, development and implementation of an M&E framework for all component of the project.Write reports to document the process of implementation, lessons learnt and good practice and ensure information is widely disseminatedCollation and analysis of other existing surveillance data Participate in the design and execution of nutrition surveys according to national guidelines Prepare monthly activity progress reports as well as quarterly donor reports.  Save the Children received co-funding from both ECHO and DFID to support the Ministry of Health (MOH) to implement High Impact Nutrition Interventions (HINI) in Wajir and Mandera Counties starting from 1st July 2012 to 31st December 2013. The support to the MOH is provided in accordance with the new implementation strategy that shifts the responsibility of implementation of HINI programme activities to the Ministry of Health, with technical, logistical and financial support provided by Save the Children. The High Impact Interventions (HINI) are being implemented at both health facilities and hard-to-reach areas.Save the Children is currently supporting the MOH to implement High Impact Interventions, as adoption of the new strategy of indirect nutrition programme implementation. This process needs to be documented systematically so as to capture key challenges; best practices and lessons learnt which would then be shared with the MOH, Donors and other stakeholders for further scale up to other counties. Ultimately such lessons learnt, best practices and discussions should feed into the review of relevant national nutrition policies and guidelines.To document in both narrative and film selected aspects of the current Save the Children nutrition programme in Wajir and Mandera Counties. The review of this documentation by Save the Children will help in the determination of best practices and lessons learnt.The scope of this consultancy includes, but is not limited to, the following:
a) Develop tentative consultancy work-plan
b) Narrative and film documentation of the health and  nutrition programmes, focusing on the following areas:
 1) Provision of technical support by Save the Children to MoH key nutrition and health  staffs Advantages of the current implementation strategy over the previous direct implementation.What is the sustainability of the HINI activities in the districts?2) The provision of logistical support to Ministry of Health to deliver High Impact Nutrition Interventions (HINI) in hard-to-reach areas.What are the types and quantity of logistical support provided to the Ministry of Health?What logistical support is usually provided to MOH? How are the monthly vehicle movement plans drawn or prepared and by whom? How the supplies (i.e. RUTF) are distributed from the district Hospitals to the rural facilities and who does the D-plan.?Is the logistical support provided adequate? 3) The participation of Community Health Workers (CHWs) in the delivery of High Impact Nutrition Interventions in hard-to-reach areas. What are the overall challenges and what impact have they felt from the Save the Children’s supported programs?The consultant shall be responsible for:Concise Narrative Report (not more than 50 pages double-spaced, Times New Roman font size 12) on best practices and lessons learnt in the nutrition programme.Film documentary on key areas in the nutrition programme (submitted in 3 or more quality CDs)Support to be provided by Save the Children Save the Children will provide the following support towards the successful execution of consultancy:Provide logistics to the consultant for field activities.Make arrangements with beneficiaries, community members and partners.Provide translators (if need be)Consultant’s daily rate Avail documents/information relevant to the project context that the consultant might require. Information might also be obtained from programme staff; MOH staff; mother-to-mother support groups; CHWs and beneficiaries through interviews.This consultancy will be conducted in July 2013 and is expected to last between 8 to 12 days.
The exercise will be coordinated from Save the Children field offices in Wajir and Mandera Counties. Save the Children will facilitate the consultant’s travel from Nairobi to the field office and field sites.  Save the Children will as well provide administrative, logistics, accommodation, meals and security-related support to ensure smooth implementation of the consultancy. The consultant will be required to abide by the organization’s security procedures as well as other applicable rules and regulations, including the code of conduct.Technical guidance and supervision for the consultant will be provided by the Health and Nutrition Programme Managers and Area Programme Managers.Knowledge and understanding of community nutrition programmes.Demonstrated experience in conducting similar work (film documentation of best practices) for international non-governmental organizationsKnowledge of and experience in arid, semi-arid and pastoralist environments.All interested consultants/firms are requested to write an expression of interest by: Explaining their competences to meet the requirements of the assignment.Provide a detailed professional budget in Kenya Shillings (indicate daily professional rates) Provide tentative work-plan and duration of the assignment and when ready to undertake the assignment. Nutrition Advocacy Officer


The Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO) is a national membership network of NGOs, CBOs, and FBOs, Private Sector actors and Research and Learning Institutions involved in or that have interest in HIV & AIDS and TB activities in Kenya. Its membership is open to all registered NGOs, CBOs, FBOs, PLHIV support organizations, Learning Institutions, public and private sector organizations in Kenya.

The organization also provides for associate membership that includes individuals and International Non-Governmental Organization partners. Currently, KANCO has a membership of over 1000 organizations and numerous individuals that are networking, collaborating and are bound together by a common vision of a healthy Kenyan people with secure and sustainable access to HIV, TB and other public health care services. KANCO’s overall goal is to provide leadership among civil society organizations contribution towards realization of universal access targets in Kenya. Its main focus is on three main strategic areas that include (a) Community Systems Strengthening (b) Improving policy for HIV/AIDS and TB (c) Institutional Systems Strengthening.

KANCO is seeking to employ a suitable person for the Nutrition Advocacy Officer Position Responsibilities
1. Lead and manage KANCO’s advocacy on nutrition through identifying nutrition advocacy opportunities locally and globally
2. Identify nutrition related policy gaps and take lead in policy advocacy both at the local and global levels
3. Take lead in resource mobilisation initiatives for advocacy from both local and global sources.
4. Increase the profile of nutrition among relevant stakeholders who include, CSOs, Government and media.
5. Manage the nutrition portfolio with the particular emphasis on creating and sustaining linkages between CSOs, Ministry of health and donors
6. Maintain and expand KANCO’s national and global role in Nutrition
7. Provide overall management of the nutrition project and represent the organization in all technical working groups, meeting and nutrition foras
8. Linking with the Actionwide partners on nutrition advocacy
9. Collate and record data for monitoring and evaluation on nutrition and ensure timely reporting  of nutrition project
10. Build and strengthen media capacity in nutrition reporting and coverage
11. Be the overall responsible person for development of the nutrition advocacy work plan, its  implementation and programmatic reporting12. Prepare and update of training material, guidelines, information-communication-education (IEC) material, and implementation tools

PERSON SPECIFICATION
? University degree in Nutrition
? Post graduate studies in Public Health, Nutrition or a related technical field
? Experience in nutrition and familiarity with latest developments in nutrition.
? Experience in training, capacity building and community participation mechanisms
? Experience of a flexible approach to managing and prioritizing a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines
? Experience of proactively identifying and addressing issues
? General knowledge of global health and nutrition issues, and the current trends, methods and approaches required. Policies and strategy to address national and global health and nutrition issues.
? Relevant experience in nutrition and advocacy at the national level is desired
? High sense of integrity and Results oriented.
? Ability to communicate with tact.
? Ability to work independently and accurately.
? Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
? Knowledge of computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
? Registered with Kenya Nutrition and Dietician Institute will be an added advantage

FSNAU Nutrition Intern Job Vacancy


Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit for Somalia (FSNAU)

Background
The Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit (FSNAU)  consists of two major components.  

i) The Food Security component which provides up to date quality food security information and  ii) The Nutrition component which focuses on the generation of good quality timely and appropriate nutrition information.  In addition the unit conducts applied research to explore and report on the underlying causes to malnutrition and food insecurity in Somalia. Both food security and nutrition information are analysed in the relevant context and provided to decision-makers within the humanitarian community in Somalia for use in the design of both short and longer term food security, nutrition and livelihood related interventions.  FSNAU places strong emphasis on partnerships with local authorities and international and local humanitarian organisations for the specific development of capacity in Somalia and the region.  This includes the provision of capacity building in Nutrition Assessment in Emergencies to Masters Level Nutrition Students in the region. As a component of this capacity building FSNAU recognises the importance of practical hands on experience by Nutrition students in humanitarian agencies therefore FSNAU is providing an opportunity for one student at Graduate level in Nutrition for an internship at the unit in Nairobi.

This internship will be for a period of three months from (July 2013 to September 2013), with the primary aim to use this period to impart technical knowledge on nutrition surveillance through on the job training.  

The intern will report directly to the FSNAU Nutrition Team Manager, and work in close consultation with the Nutrition Analysts. The intern will focus on the following tasks:
 Assist in cleaning and entry of nutrition survey/assessments data, under the supervision of the relevant Nutrition Analysts and in close collaboration with the Data Entry Clerks.Participate in the Gu 2013 seasonal analysis and dissemination workshops and meetings.Attend Somalia Nutrition cluster meetings and other relevant cluster meetings in Nairobi.Under the supervision of the Nutrition analyst who is the focal point on Capacity building, assist in the planning and preparation of nutrition surveys and assessments at Nairobi level.In detail read the nutrition technical reports, updates and other relevant documents published from Gu season last year to date and ensure consistency in reporting of rates, confidence intervals, tables and information in text.In close collaboration with Nutrition analysts assist in drafting, editing and finalizing articles for the nutrition updates/technical series.Working closely with the Nutrition Data Analyst and Nutrition analysts, to ensure that data collected through the Health Information System, is received as required and updated; also assist in running basic analysis of this information.Assist in on-going FSNAU nutrition related research initiatives, particularly in the form of literature searches, processing/compiling data, data analysis, technical writing and report editing.Participate in relevant internal and external events such as meetings and trainings.Perform other tasks as assignedCandidates MUST be post graduate students pursuing a Master’s degree in NUTRITION in Kenya or SomaliaMust be postgraduate student at a local public universityShould be computer literatePrevious work experience not mandatoryStrong critical thinking and writing abilityStrong English writing and editing skillsHigh degree of self-motivation and initiativeWillingness to learn and apply new analytical approachesStrong skills in basic computer packages – Knowledge in EPI Info, ENA or EPI6 an added advantageSensitivity to the social and cultural environment of SomaliaBy the end of the internship, the student should have gained considerable technical knowledge and understanding on nutrition surveillance and situational analysis. Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit for Somalia (FSNAU)

Background

The Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit (FSNAU)  consists of two major components.  i) The Food Security component which provides up to date quality food security information and  ii) The Nutrition component which focuses on the generation of good quality timely and appropriate nutrition information.  

In addition the unit conducts applied research to explore and report on the underlying causes to malnutrition and food insecurity in Somalia. 

Both food security and nutrition information are analysed in the relevant context and provided to decision-makers within the humanitarian community in Somalia for use in the design of both short and longer term food security, nutrition and livelihood related interventions.  

FSNAU places strong emphasis on partnerships with local authorities and international and local humanitarian organisations for the specific development of capacity in Somalia and the region.  

This includes the provision of capacity building in Nutrition Assessment in Emergencies to Masters Level Nutrition Students in the region. 

As a component of this capacity building FSNAU recognises the importance of practical hands on experience by Nutrition students in humanitarian agencies therefore FSNAU is providing an opportunity for one student at Graduate level in Nutrition for an internship at the unit in Nairobi.

FAO Somalia is looking for qualified an Nutrition Intern.

This internship will be for a period of three months from (July 2013 to September 2013), with the primary aim to use this period to impart technical knowledge on nutrition surveillance through on the job training.  

The intern will report directly to the FSNAU Nutrition Team Manager, and work in close consultation with the Nutrition Analysts. 

The intern will focus on the following tasks:

Tasks:
Assist in cleaning and entry of nutrition survey/assessments data, under the supervision of the relevant Nutrition Analysts and in close collaboration with the Data Entry Clerks.Participate in the Gu 2013 seasonal analysis and dissemination workshops and meetings.Attend Somalia Nutrition cluster meetings and other relevant cluster meetings in Nairobi.Under the supervision of the Nutrition analyst who is the focal point on Capacity building, assist in the planning and preparation of nutrition surveys and assessments at Nairobi level.In detail read the nutrition technical reports, updates and other relevant documents published from Gu season last year to date and ensure consistency in reporting of rates, confidence intervals, tables and information in text.In close collaboration with Nutrition analysts assist in drafting, editing and finalizing articles for the nutrition updates/technical series.Working closely with the Nutrition Data Analyst and Nutrition analysts, to ensure that data collected through the Health Information System, is received as required and updated; also assist in running basic analysis of this information.Assist in on-going FSNAU nutrition related research initiatives, particularly in the form of literature searches, processing/compiling data, data analysis, technical writing and report editing.Participate in relevant internal and external events such as meetings and trainings.Perform other tasks as assignedMinimum qualifications:

Purpose of Post:

Under the general supervision of the Nutrition Manager, and with technical support of the Global Nutrition Cluster, the Country Nutrition Coordinator will be responsible for leading the Nutrition Coordination at the Country level in Kenya.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1.    Establishment and maintenance of appropriate coordination mechanisms:
  • Ensure appropriate coordination between all Nutrition partners (including national and international NGOs, the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, IOM and other international organizations active in the sector) as well as national authorities and local structures
  • Ensure the establishment/maintenance of appropriate sector coordination mechanisms including, steering committees, working groups at the national, and if necessary, local level;
  • Ensure full integration of cross-cutting issues, namely human rights, HIV/AIDS, age, gender and environment, utilization participatory and community-based approaches.  In line with this, promote gender equality by ensuring that the needs, contributions and capacities of women and girls as well as men and boys are addressed;
  • Secure commitments from participants in responding to needs and filling gaps, ensuring an appropriate distribution of responsibilities within the cluster, with clearly defined focal points for specific issues where necessary;
  • Ensure that participants work collectively, ensuring the complementarities of the various stake holder’s actions;
  • Promote emergency response actions while at the same time considering the need for early recovery planning as well as prevention and risk reduction concerns;
  • Ensure effective links with other sectors (with OCHA support), especially Health & Nutrition, Agriculture and Livelihoods and Education;
  • Represent the interests of the sector in discussions at various forum
  • Act as focal point for inquiries on the nutrition cluster’s response plans and operations and related activities.
2.    Planning and strategy development:
  • Ensure predictable action within the sector for the following:
  • Needs assessment and analysis; development of standard assessment formats for use within the sector;
  • Identification of gaps;
  • Developing/updating agreed response strategies and action plans for the sector and ensuring that these are adequately reflected in the overall country strategies (e.g. Nutrition Action Plan, Emergency Humanitarian Response Plan)
  • Drawing lessons learned from past activities and revising strategies and action plans accordingly;
3.    Application of standards:
  • Ensure that nutrition actors are aware of relevant policy guidelines, technical standards and relevant commitments that the Government/concerned authorities have undertaken under international human rights law;
  • Ensure that responses are in line with existing policy guidance, technical standards, and relevant Government human rights legal obligations.
4.    Monitoring and reporting:
  • Specifically needs to include an analytical interpretation of best available information in order to benchmark progress of the emergency response over time.  That is - monitoring indicators (quantity, quality, coverage, continuity and cost) of service delivery which are derived from working towards meeting standards (mentioned in point 4).
  • Ensure regular reporting against cluster indicators of service delivery (quantity, quality, coverage, continuity and cost) supports analysis of cluster in closing gaps and measuring impact of interventions.
5.    Advocacy and resource mobilization:
  • Identify core advocacy concerns, including resource requirements, and contribute key messages to broader advocacy initiatives of the Humanitarian Coordinators and other actors;
  • Advocate for donors to fund partners to carry out priority activities in the sector concerned, while at the same time encouraging/supporting nutrition actors to mobilize resources for their activities in collaboration with Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation.
6.    Identification of key partners:
  • Identify key humanitarian and development partners, respecting their respective mandates and program priorities
  • Identify other key partners including local and national authorities, peacekeeping forces, etc.
  • Carryout capacity mapping of all current and potential actors – government, national and international humanitarian organizations as well as national institutions, the private sector and market assess to materials and services
7.    Training and capacity building of national/local authorities and civil society:
  • Promote and support training of humanitarian personnel and capacity building of humanitarian partners, based on the mapping and understanding of available capacity;
  • Support efforts to strengthen the capacity of the national/local authorities and civil society.
8.    Acting as “Provider of last resort”:
  • As agreed by the IASC Principals, sector leads are responsible for acting as the provider of last resort to meet agreed priority needs and will be supported by the HC in their resource mobilization efforts in this regard;

1. Nutritionist – Contract (six months)

The overall objective of this position is to manage the health and nutrition responses in the HADA project and oversee the design, evaluation, and implementation of the health and nutrition programs.

Major Responsibilities:

Qualification and Experience
  • 3 years health care program management and nutrition experience, preferably in a relief setting. Medical degree, Nursing degree and/or Masters of Public Health.
  • Clearly demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate technical nutritional assessments using established and recognized anthropometric assessment methodologies.
  • Competence in the use of MS Office and Strong capacity building and facilitation skills, accompanied with cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural contexts, psychologically stressful environments and physical hardship conditions with limited resources.

2. Disaster Response Monitoring Officer- Contract (six months)

Primary function

Line management and administrative support and work collaboratively with the Regional M&E Officer for M&E technical guidance and support.

He/she will spearhead monitoring activities in the field and will basically be responsible for output and process monitoring for the WC disaster response Program.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Data collection, entry, and compilation for the various WC disaster response projects in North eastern Kenya and South Somalia
  • Ensure that WC disaster projects’ data is of high quality, complete and reliable
  • Maintain/update the WC disaster project data base on a regular basis to ensure that quick summary reports of WC disaster response activities can be generated
  • Undertake field visits with project beneficiaries , partners, suppliers of goods & services(for the voucher system activities) to ensure that activity implementation is in line with WC and donors’ values and standards and ensure data collection tools are filled properly.
  • Support or spearhead carrying out of rapid assessments and or other surveys in the field
  • Compile and disseminate on a regular basis stories of transformation and lessons learned in the field to enhance program learning

Purpose of position

This role will provide project support assistance to the Director for Maternal & Child Health (MCH) and the Nutrition and HIV Emergencies Advisor based in East Africa Regional Office (EARO), Westlands, Kenya

Major Responsibilities:
  • Assist team with research related to MCH, Nutrition and HIV as requested such as literature review.
  • Compile quarterly and annual activity reports for the MCH and Nutrition team.
  • Provide administrative support for events such as workshops, webex and conference calls. These include but are not limited to liaising with hotels/venues, organizing logistics, writing reports.
  • Provide support to the team with developing materials by assisting with TORs for consultants, time keeping, liaising with procurement and finance.
  • Provide administrative support such as publishing, printing, binding, scanning, faxing technical and project documents.
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
  • University Degree in Public Health/ Nutrition (or related or transferable field of study required in related field desired).
  • Must have computer aptitude and experience in database management, spreadsheet software and Internet usage. Proficient using Word, Excel, Power Point, or similar programs; email systems; extensive website and on-line skills.
  • Good writing skills in English.
  • 1 year of experience in project management and/or administrative responsibilities is preferable.

International Potato Center Project Manager Job in Kenya

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking to recruit an accomplished project manager with excellent skills in planning, human resource management, and resource mobilization for a new 3 year effort focused on capacity strengthening of African advocates and resource mobilization for massive investment in the dissemination of pro-vitamin A rich orange-fleshed sweetpotato in 5 target countries.

The Center: CIP is a not-for-profit international agricultural research-for-development organization with a focus on potato, sweetpotato, and Andean roots and tubers.

The position:

The Sweetpotato for Profit and Health Initiative, launched by CIP and over 26 partners in October 2009, has an ambitious goal of improving the lives of at least 10 million African households by 2020 through the effective production and expanded use of sweetpotato.

Evidence has clearly demonstrated that orange-fleshed sweetpotato varieties are an excellent source of pro-vitamin A -- an essential vitamin for health.

Building a cadre of trained African champions for utilizing orange-fleshed sweetpotato as an entry point for tackling widespread vitamin A deficiency and a cadre of trained development agents to successfully promote and disseminate these materials is at the core of this effort.

The project manager is expected to provide the leadership, administrative and key resource mobilization skills to ensure that significant funds are raised and appropriate country specific strategies are in place for this to happen in Tanzania, Mozambique, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ghana.

Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Provide overall vision and direction for the 3 year program including the regional and country level teams
  • Build, support and maintain active networks and links with relevant African institutions, leaders and donors engaged in agriculture, nutrition and social policy.
  • Manage the program day-to-day, including sub-grants and partnerships, to support capacity strengthening, fundraising and advocacy.
  • Actively support training, gender, and advocacy specialists to develop strategies that will engage partners and strengthen technical capacity, build focused resource mobilization and advocacy skills in promoting orange-fleshed sweetpotato projects within national nutrition and/or income enhancement goals.
  • Backstop country level teams in resource mobilization
  • Promote the integration of orange-fleshed sweetpotato into national and regional programs, projects, and data collection systems at various fora and in the media
  • Assure timely reporting and milestone compliance

Nutritionist (HIV/AIDS)

Feed The Children - Kenya is seeking to recruit the position of Nutritionist in the HIV/AIDS program. This is a one year renewable contract. Based in Nairobi, the incumbent will report to the HIV/AIDS program Manager.

Key responsibilities:
  • Supervising Nutrition intervention activities in all areas of operation.

Nutritionist (MCHN)

Feed The Children-Kenya in partnership with UN World Food Program is implementing a Maternal and Child Health Nutrition (MCHN) Program in Langata and Thika Districts.

We are seeking to recruit for two positions of Nutritionists to be based in Langata and Thika Districts.

This is a nine months contract.

The positions will report to the MCHN Program Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities
  • Together with District Nutrition Officer (DNO), come up with a monthly food request for the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) in all Health Facilities.
  • Carry out nutrition program supportive supervision, including On the Job Training to Health Facility staff; and prepare monthly Health Facility supervision report and submit to agency and partner.
  • Thoroughly monitor submission of stock and nutrition indicator reports from all Health Facilities, and be available to assist DNOs with preparation of monthly District stock summary report.
  • Strengthen nutrition education and other High Impact Nutrition Interventions such as Infant and Young Child Feeding and Micronutrient supplementation to healthcare workers, and beneficiaries of the program at Health Facility.
  • Carry out monthly premixing demonstrations of SFP rations to newly recruited beneficiaries at Health Facilities.
  • Jointly with DNO initiate and ensure Health Facility based mother-to-mother support groups are held monthly in the District, be an active participant in these meetings, and disseminate minutes of these meetings to the agency and partner.

Job Summary: To provide technical leadership, guidance and training to the Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Medical Services (MoPHS) staff and to Concern Worldwide nutrition programme partners in Moyale in the implementation of the high-impact nutrition interventions (HINI) project and document the process.

The Project Manager will be responsible for the full-time management of this project, including supervision of 3 staff.

Summary of Essential Qualifications
  • A nursing or nutrition degree is essential. A master’s degree in Public health or Nutrition is desirable.
  • At least three years’ experience in working of community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) programmes with significant experience/knowledge of MoH systems, particularly at the provincial and district level and at least two year’s experience in a supervisory role.
  • Familiarity with/experience of the public health approach and experience of programme planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge/experience of challenges of working with and through local partners, nutrition assessment, including surveys, rapid assessments, and surveillance.

Project Officer – Survey & Surveillance

Duration: Fixed Term – 1 Year

Reporting to: Concern Kenya Nutrition Coordinator

Job Summary

General objective: Planning and implementation of nutrition, KAP, and coverage surveys; SQUEAC assessments and sentinel surveillance in Concern programme areas.

He/she will be responsible for planning, coordinating and executing surveillance, survey and other assessments, conducting data analysis and writing survey reports.

The project officer will be expected to train and build capacity of Ministry of Health and partner staff in conducting surveillance and surveys and also produce brief reports for inputs to the national nutrition bulletin as well representing Concern at national nutrition information working group.

The project officer will work in close consultation with the Research and Evaluation advisors.

Summary of Essential Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Epidemiology, Statistics, Economics or health and Nutrition with strong statistical focus and strong survey/surveillance background.
  • At least two years experience in surveys, surveillance and other assessment and previous experience in set up and running of surveillance systems.
  • Excellent data management, analysis and reporting skills.
  • Able to use statistical software (Epi Info, ENA, SPSS, STATA).
  • Experience conducting surveys (SMART, SQUEAC and LQAS methodology ).
  • Excellent written and public communication and negotiation skills.
  • Humanitarian field experience is essential.
Finance Officer - Programme Support Unit (Psu)

Location: Nairobi

Type of Contract: Open-ended

Reporting to: Country Accountant

Job summary: The Finance Officer (PSU) you will primarily focus on ensuring all the fundamental accounting functions (bank, cash, authorisation controls) operate effectively in Nairobi and in compliance with Concern procedures.

He/she will also be responsible for the monthly payroll and the monthly upload of cashbooks/journals and support cost processes at the month end, managing donor grants and operational budgets among other duties.

A key part of the role will be the effective management of the balance sheet and the timely release of recharge information to other country programmes.

Summary of Essential Qualifications
  • Accountancy qualification (CPA K or ACCA). A BCom degree will be an added advantage.
  • 3 years work experience 2 of which should be in Accounting.
  • Experience with computer accounting programmes, Ms Excel and Ms Word.
