KEMRI RCTP Assistant Program Coordinator Job in Suba District Kenya


Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW). It is a dynamic comprehensive HIV research, prevention, care and treatment program in Kenya. It is a rapidly expanding program. Due to its continued growth, the program is seeking motivated, pro-active individuals to fill the following vacancy in our FACES II Program Kisumu office.
 Position: Assistant Program Coordinator - Suba DistrictDiploma in clinical Medicine and Surgery from recognized from a recognized institution and must be registered with the clinical Officers’ CouncilRegistered (eligible) to practice with the Kenya Medical and Dental Practitioners Board.Knowledge of MS Office and a minimum 1 year experience in management and HIV Clinical care.Excellent written and verbal communications and strong leadership ability is essential.Development of program systems to ensure delivery of high quality accessible HIV prevention, care and treatment services in the districts we support.Oversight of the implementation of the programs developed including clinical care, mentoring, training, site evaluation and development, counseling and education, community follow-up, commodity management and monitoring and evaluation at the district level.Oversight of budget development and participation in budget managementDeveloping and maintaining relations with the partners including the Ministry of Health, collaborators and donorsClinical mentoring and training, leadership development and capacity building.The job involves approximately 50% program development and coordination, and 50%clinical mentoring and patient care.

Summary:
The post will manage all purchasing issues in support of the Programme, managing a purchasing team to deliver a proactive and efficient value for money service.

The key job functions include:
Ensuring that all the institute supplies are met in accordance with the best practice procedures.
Secretary to the Programme Procurement Committee
Co-ordinate approval for disposal of obsolete materials and assets of the Programme.
Enforcement of regulations, systems and procedures; Initiation of procurement policy
Ensuring the procurement of all goods; works and services associated with project activities in accordance with institution's procurement procedures ;
Reviewing procurement documents and participates in the evaluation process for suppliers, contractors and consultants for goods, works & services
Ensuring that accurate procurement records are maintained, including all actions and documents for review by the institution's senior management.
Responsibility for returning goods to suppliers that are not as per the specification, or where items are delivered faulty etc - in liaison with the Stores Manager
Ensuring that quotes are sourced efficiently and quickly according to the Programme guidelines
Creating and maintaining a database on suppliers performance in relation to work carried out on the Programme
Maintaining the database of Pre Qualified suppliers
Reporting any issues regarding "vested interests" or breach of procedures to the to the Chief Operating Officer/Head of Finance as soon as discovered
Ensuring that awarded suppliers meet agreed delivery time; that goods specifications are fully met and that goods are received in full by the stores team
Assisting the Programme to source new good quality, value for money supplies from "assessed" suppliers
Maintaining a contracts database, coordinating renewal and driving the procurement, drawing and signing of new contracts.

Qualifications, Skills and Competence

Qualifications and experience:
The post holder will have:
A first degree in Economics ,Commerce or related degree.
Professional qualification in Purchasing & Supplies Management, Full CIPS qualifications and Membership or its equivalent, from a recognized institution.
Over six years’ experience in procurement.
Shown merit and ability in work performance and results.
Experience of managing a team, including strong training and coaching.

Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) Regional Communications Manager Job in Kenya


The Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) is a patient-needs driven, not-for-profit research and development (R&D) organization that develops safe, effective, and affordable medicines for neglected diseases that afflict millions of the world’s poorest people.

DNDi focuses on developing new treatments for the most neglected patients suffering from diseases such as sleeping sickness (or human African trypanosomiasis), leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, malaria, specific Helminth infections, and paediatric HIV.

The initiative’s primary objective is to deliver 11 to 13 new treatments by 2018 and to establish a strong R&D portfolio for these diseases.

DNDi Africa, based at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), in Nairobi, Kenya, was established in 2003 at the outset of DNDi.

This key regional office conducts research and development projects in the region, including clinical trials for leishmaniasis and malaria. It also runs a data management centre for processing clinical trial results and serves as the headquarters of the Leishmaniasis East Africa Platform (LEAP).

The Africa office is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the following vacant position

Position: Regional Communications Manager

Reporting to the Head, DNDi Africa and Head of Communications and Advocacy, DNDi Geneva and working in collaboration with communications and advocacy teams in Geneva and other regional offices

Overall objective of the job:

To contribute to DNDi’s global communication strategy and coordinate and manage communication activities in Africa aimed at;

(a) Developing a communications strategy and plan of action for all DNDi activities in Africa according to the general DNDi action plan for Communication & Advocacy;

(b) Developing strong media relations in national and regional media;

(c) Reinforcing DNDi corporate communications by developing communication tools to emphasize DNDi’s activities in Africa

(d) Leading DNDi advocacy activities in Africa, including boosting government engagement in R&D; access to medicines; new favorable environment for R&D including strengthening the regulatory environment in Africa, positioning of African decision makers with respect to international initiatives, etc.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Strategy and Planning
  • Contributes to defining DNDi’s global strategic objectives for communications as part of DNDi’s international communications team.
  • Raises awareness about DNDi’s activities in Africa and develop adequate communication tools in order to raise the profile of DNDi Africa within Africa and contribute to raising the profile of the LEAP platform internationally.
  • Leads the development and implementation of the DNDi Africa-specific communications plans, including all efforts to increase awareness in Africa of DNDi’s activities, accomplishments, concerns, expertise, and values through the media, print and digital publications, scientific publications, conferences, public education and advocacy campaigns, etc.
  • Works in close collaboration with the DNDi Africa team as well as relevant departments of DNDi in Geneva, regional offices, and partners regionally and worldwide to ensure a comprehensive and coherent communication strategy for DNDi in Africa
  • Monitors and analyses progress towards established goals as articulated in the strategy and annual action plan

Essential Requirements
  • Masters (MR 11) or BSc Degree (MR10) in Mathmatics, Statistics/Computer studies or Information Technology

  • Participate in the design of data management procedures to achieve optimal efficiency and quality.
  • Assist with manuscript writing (author/coauthor).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Terms of Employment:

Contract for 6 (1) year renewable as per KEMRI schemes of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.
