The Organization

Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) is the National Standards Body established under the Standards Act, Cap 496 of the Laws of Kenya.

KEBS mandate is to safeguard the reputation of Kenya's products and services as well as the imports brought into the country by ensuring the quality, reliability and reputation of these products and services, facilitating industrial efficiency and development in order to improve public and industrial welfare.

KEBS vision is to be a global leader in standards based solutions that deliver quality and confidence.

In order to ensure that KEBS delivers on its mandate, we now seek to recruit a high calibre, results oriented and self driven professional who will be employed by KEBS to provide leadership and strategic direction in the capacity of Managing Director.

The Role

Reporting to the National Standards Council, the Managing Director will bear the ultimate responsibility of safeguarding the reputation of Kenya's products and services as well as the quality of imports brought into the country.

S/he will be responsible for directing and managing KEBS' projects, activities, technical and support staff and resources in order to deliver the organization's strategic plan and to meet the country's standardization, quality assurance, metrology and testing needs for facilitation of trade and enhancement of the National Quality Infrastructure.

S/he will direct and coordinate the company's operations and overall administration so as to ensure that the various units of the company operate in conformity with overall performance targets.

The Managing Director will develop and maintain a robust and conducive work environment for attracting, retaining, and motivating employees.

S/he will foster a culture of quality and performance that promotes standards of ethical practices, good corporate citizenship as well as health and safety. S/he will also inculcate a results-based management culture to improve performance and accountability for all staff and top leadership in the organization.

Management and Leadership Competencies

The Managing Director will possess an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Science, Engineering or any other relevant field. A Master's and/or Phd degree in a related field from a recognized university or relevant professional qualification will be an added advantage.

S/he will have a minimum of 10 years in management, 5 years of which should have been at senior management level.

S/he should have excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation skills.

The candidate should also be energetic, self-driven person of impeccable integrity and honesty; possess good knowledge of ethics; governance and operations of boards of directors and management teams will be desirable.

We are looking for a dynamic and visionary leader aged 35 years and above with demonstrated skills and experience in managing diverse teams including technical specialists, as well as delivering significant results in a complex environment.

KEBS Assistant Quality Assurance Officer, Textile Job Vacancy in Kenya


The Kenya Bureau of standards (KEBS) is a statutory organization of the Government of Kenya established by the Standards Act, Cap 496 of the laws of Kenya in July 1974.

The mandate of KEBS is to provide Standardization, Metrology and Conformity Assessment services through Promotion of standardization in commerce and industry, Provision of testing and calibration facilities, Control of the use of standardization marks, undertaking educational work in standardization, Facilitation of the implementation and practical application of standards, Maintenance and dissemination of the International System of Units (SI) of measurements.

KEBS wishes to recruit innovative and result oriented individuals for the following position.

Assistant Quality Assurance Officer, Textile

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitating implementation of Kenya Standards and other approved specifications in the industry, in the relevant field.
  • Enforcing mandatory Kenya Standards and handling samples for quality testing.
  • Receiving, analyzing laboratory test reports and giving feedback to the client
  • Implementing KEBS mandatory Standardization Mark Scheme.
  • Implementing KEBS voluntary Diamond Mark Scheme.
  • Carrying out product certification audits under the schemes 4 & 5 of ISO/IEC Guide 67
  • Carrying out market surveillance on product quality in the assigned field and monitoring usage of KEBS Standardization and Diamond Marks in the market.
  • Participating in prosecution of the various parties contravening the Standards Act.
  • Receiving, investigating and resolving consumer related product complaints.
  • Providing consultancy services on product and process quality to industry and other stakeholders.
  • Carrying out quality contractual services on products and processes in the relevant field, on behalf of KEBS.
  • Participating in the relevant technical committee meeting for development of standards.
  • Marketing and promoting KEBS services to industry
  • Bringing on board products without standards and providing details for the development of Kenya standards.
  • Preparing work schedules and monthly reports
Job Specifications:

Job grade: KS 7

Minimum academic qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science (textile)
Competencies:
  • Leadership skills, Analytical skills, Communication & negotiation skills, Integrity and Computer literacy.

  • Carrying out quality inspection of imported goods.
  • Enforce Kenya /approved standards and Legal Notice No. 78
  • Draw and submit samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Receive, interpret and forward laboratory reports to importers.
  • Advice importers on KEBS import regulations/ Standards.
  • Recommend Seizure and destruction or reship substandard/ counterfeit goods.
  • Recommend release of goods meeting the requirements the relevant Kenya/ approved standards.
  • Maintain inspection records/ data.
  • Provide information necessary for development of new Kenya standards or review of existing ones.
Job Specification

Job grade: KS 8

Minimum academic qualification: Diploma in Civil engineering

Professional qualification

QMS training and Conformity assessment training added advantage

Competencies: Integrity, Communication skills and Computer literacy

Tour Consultant Job in Nairobi Kenya kebs


Our client, middle sized and ambitious Tour Operator based in Nairobi is seeking to recruit a Tour Consultant.

The successful candidate will be required to :
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the East Africa Tourism Product
  • Be a graduate of a recognised University majoring in Tourism
  • Be fully conversant with all aspects of Tour Operations such as itinerary planning, reservations, tour quotations and customer service
  • Have a minimum two years experience in a similar position
  • Be Computer literate with relevant experience in Microsoft Office, Internet and email – generally have good IT skills
  • Be a good team player and have good interpersonal and written / oral communication skills
  • Be prepared to work in a busy office with minimum supervision
  • Sales, Marketing and Product Development training and experience will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of some Outbound Tour Destinations will be an added advantage.
  • Candidates with a diploma in Tour Operations encouraged to apply.
Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
