Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The Ozone Secretariat is the Secretariat for the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and for the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. This post is located in the Ozone Secretariat of the United Nations Environment Programme/Executive Office (UNEP/EO) in the Nairobi duty station. Under the general supervision of the Executive Secretary and the direct supervision of the Senior Legal Officer and two other officers in the Legal and Compliance Unit, the incumbent will:Provide assistance in support of planning and implementation of the programme/project initiatives; Research, compile, analyse, summarize and present basic information/data on programme/project; Assist in coordination of programme/project planning and preparation; Monitor status of programme/project proposals; Ensure project documents are completed and submitted for approval; Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of programme/projects; Categorize, update, track and analyse data related to programmes/projects; Collaborate with programme/project managers on performance reporting; Provide assistance on reporting requirements, guidelines, rules and procedures and ensure completeness and accuracy of data submitted; Draft programme/project summaries, coordinate, review and clearance process; Coordinate with editor, translation services, on finalization and publication of report multiple languages; Serve as focal point for coordination, monitoring an expedition of programme/project implementation activities; Initiate requests, prepare standard terms of reference against programme/project objectives, obtain clearance, process and follow up on administrative actions; Resolve issues related to project implementation; Prepare, maintain and update files and internal databases; Design and generate periodic and ad hoc reports, statistical tables, graphic content and other background materials/notes to facilitate inspection and other reviews; Draft correspondence and communications of programme/project administration work plan and budgets; Input data into the Ozone ODS database and update the addresses and focal points databases of the Secretariat, Assist in the preparation and servicing of the annual meetings of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol, the triennial meetings of the Conference of the Parties to the Vienna Convention and meetings of Montreal Protocol subsidiary bodies; Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Completion of secondary school is required. Supplementary training in computer applications (Word, Excel, Power Point and Access), office management, as well as administrative services is required.

Work Experience
At least six years' experience in a UN Organization. Good knowledge of UN's organizational structure to facilitate direct query response service. Ability to respond to general queries and research necessary information both printed and electronic. Ability to deal with issues which are complex, confidential and sometimes extremely sensitive. Experience in servicing inter-governmental meetings is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Other Skills
Good knowledge of computer applications, especially MS-Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Access) essential, as well as eagerness to learn and use new computer applications. Good typing skills are required, as well as familiarity with the use of e-mail, fax machines and different types of photocopiers. Knowledge of in-house procedures, instructions, and guidelines, necessary.

UNEP's Division of Early Warning and Assessment (DEWA) is responsible for analyzing the state of the global environment, providing early warning information and assessing global and regional environmental trends to catalyze and promote international cooperation and action on the environment. This post is located in UNEP/DEWA at the Nairobi duty station. Under the general supervision of the Director DEWA and the direct supervision of the Head of the Integrated Environmental Assessment Section (IEA), the incumbent will perform the following fuctions: 1. Support the Head of the IEA Section in coordinating the implementation of scientific and integrated environmental assessments in particular the Global Environment Outlook (GEO): Oraganize preparation and draft project document and agreements; contribute to training programmes; liaise and guide partners and external consultants in their work; Review and develop guidelines for the production of GEO reports; Organize and represent DEWA in meetings, workshops and make presentations. 2. Implement the assessment component of the programme work ensuring that outcomes feed into the implementation of the UNEP priority areas: Monitor outputs and liaise with multilateral assessment processes and ensure findings are available to the GEO assessment; provide support to the UNEP Climate Change Sub programme Coordinator in climate change assessments; contribute to developing and implementing the climate change strategy and sub programme on climate change; Update the division management group. 3. Contribute to implementation of UNEP’s priority areas in relation to environmental mainstreaming and the Bali Strategic Plan for Technology Support and Capacity Building: Act as the focal point in the IEA section for data and indicators activities; contribute to developing data and indicators methodological recommendations for IEA; Liaise with developers of the GEO data portal; monitor development of off-line and regional versions of data portal; Keep the IEA section informed about development of environmental data and indicators; 4. QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental management, natural sciences or related field is required. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible work experience in environmental management, natural sciences/programme management or related field, some of which in an international organization, is required.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations languages an asset.

Other Skills
Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, internet) are required. Knowledge of and ability to apply UNEP institutional mandates and polices an advantage.

UNEP is one of three implementing agencies of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), alongside the World Bank and the UN Development Programme (UNDP). Under the supervision of the Senior Programme Officer, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:1. This post is located in the UNEP/DEWA at the Nairobi duty station. Under the general supervision of the Project Coordinator, the incumbent will undertake the following: 1. Research, compile, analyse, summarize and present basic information/data on specific, programme/project topics.2. Assist in the coordination of programme/project planning and preparation; Monitor status of programme/project proposals; ensure project documents are completed and submitted to relevant parties for approval.3. Assist in the preparation of programme/project proposals; Provide assistance in the interpretation of Logical Framework Analysis (LFA) guidelines; review and coordinate submissions of programme proposals, ensure that requisite information is included and justified in terms of proposed activities; propose adjustments; prepare reports and ensure outputs/services are categorized.4. Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of programme/projects; Categorize, update, track and analyse data related to programme/projects; carry out periodic status reviews, identify issues and initiate requisite follow-up actions; prepare revised budget estimates; report on budget revisions, expenditures and obligations, verify availability of funds; ensure approval and entry in computerized budget system; initiate financial authorizations for expenditures.5.
