Our client, a leading retail group in Tanzania, with rapid expansion plans is looking for a Warehouse Manager to manage the retail warehouse and logistics centre.

We are specifically looking for candidates with similar working experience in any of the major retail outlets in Kenya.

Key Responsibilities 
  • Develop both long-term strategic goals and tactical/operational plans for the Warehouse/Logistics function to support the Retail Division’s expansion strategy.
  • Develop, evaluate, and maintain receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures against agreed key performance indicators.
  • Reviewing existing automated systems and recommending where necessary new technology to improve efficiency and performance of the warehouse/logistics area.
  • Ensure compliance with all national, East African and International material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Safeguards warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
  • Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with data storage system, ensuring accuracy at all levels of merchandise handling through implementation of procedures.
  • Maintains physical condition of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Overseeing the dispatch and distribution of goods to retail stores to ensure optimum stock levels at store level in line with retail sales targets.
  • Ensuring that vehicles, machinery and equipment are maintained and implement plans to ensure optimum use of resources at all times.
  • Manage warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning warehouse and logistic staff; following up tactical/operational plans and deadlines are achieved.
  • Maintains warehouse staff by supporting HR in recruiting, selecting, staff, and leading the orienting and training of new and existing employees, to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
  • Maintains warehouse staff performance by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Skills and Experience 
  • Good numeracy and IT skills (Microsoft Office, and warehouse database systems), particularly spreadsheets and databases, industry knowledge of support technology and modern logistic processes.
  • The ability to communicate tactical and operational plans into meaningful tasks for warehouse supervisors and staff.
  • The ability to plan and organize work schedules
  • A calm, level-headed approach with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Good decision-making skills
  • Leadership, motivational and team-working abilities
  • Good spoken and written communication skills, Swahili an advantage.
  • A minimum of five years retail warehouse experience with distribution/logistics oversight, gained in a professional retail environment.

Under the leadership of the Regional Controller, s/he will prepare and review financial donor reports, budgets and data analysis for the various countries.

The post holder will support country finance teams in reviewing of processes and ensuring compliance with CARE policy and donor regulations.

The role will be required to build capacity of finance teams at field office level, as well as provide appropriate training in finance policies and procedures. The incumbent will be required to make extensive travel within the region.

Person specification 
  • Should have experience in a similar finance position, be a qualified accountant or equivalent.
  • Have over five years experience in accounting, financial management, budgeting, financial reporting, grants/contract management and compliance with national regulatory environment
  • Should show demonstrable experience in managing diverse donors e.g. USAID, EC, ECHO. Including knowledge of donor compliance
  • Have thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices, problem solving and audit skills. They should have ability to work on a detailed level while understanding the larger picture.
  • Should have proficiency in MS Office and financial software applications
  • Posses strong oral and written communication skills;
This role reports to Regional Controller and works closely with Deputy Regional Controller and Country Controllers. This is a temporary position for an initial period of 4 – 6 months.

The Need

International Justice Mission is seeking an experienced criminal investigator to investigate cases of sexual abuse, illegal detention and abuse of power to bring rescue and relief to the most vulnerable in society, while providing a safe and secure environment for our clients and staff.

The Field Investigator will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and will report to the Director of Investigations.

Responsibilities 
  • Investigate all cases of sexual abuse, illegal detention, and abuse of power; 
  • Manage information networks to build cases against perpetrators; 
  • Assist the police to conduct thorough crime scene analysis and the apprehension and/or prosecution of perpetrators; 
  • Prepare IJM clients and staff for police interviews and other inquiries; 
  • Liaise with law enforcement agencies regarding crime trends, criminal activities, security and safety issues that may pose a threat to IJM assets, staff or clients; 
  • Maintain detailed activity logs and prepare reports of cases and incidents investigated; 
  • Maintain up to date written and electronic records on all case files and related materials; 
  • Carry out other additional assignments given by the Director of Investigations and/or the Field Office Director.
Required Skills and Experience 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience conducting criminal investigations, with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), including undercover and/or special operations assignments; 
  • Proven ability to develop and conduct investigations of criminal activity; 
  • Completion of a basic investigation course from CID training school; 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; 
  • Must possess a valid certificate of good conduct from the Criminal Registration Bureau; 
  • A competent driver with a valid driver’s license; and 
  • Service (volunteer or otherwise) with churches or Christian fellowships in Kenya.

Regional Accounting Manager, Africa

The Need

International Justice Mission (IJM) is seeking a talented accounting manager to provide accounting oversight of field offices in Africa by developing and training staff, ensuring appropriate internal controls of the field offices in Africa and liaising closely with the United States (US) headquarters.

We are looking for someone passionate for this mission and passionate about using their financial skills and experience to ensure stewardship and accountability.

This position is a key member of a global team of high caliber professional finance staff. This position can be based in any of IJM’s Africa field offices (Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda or Zambia) and reports to the International Finance Officer who is based at IJM headquarters in the US.

Responsibilities

Lead and develop accounting staff 
  • Assist in recruiting field office finance staff including reviewing CV’s, interviewing and providing input as to the final decision; 
  • Provide input on job descriptions; 
  • Train and provide orientation to new field office finance staff; 
  • Provide ongoing technical and management leadership and mentoring to field office accountants through weekly phone calls and office visits; and 
  • Assist field office accountants in creating and monitoring a development plan in collaboration with Field Office Directors.
Training 
  • Provide training to field office accountants and other staff on needed areas including policies & procedures, stewardship, grant compliance, QuickBooks, audit compliance, etc. 
  • Training will be provided both on-site and virtually.
Monitoring/Audits 
  • Visit each field office at least twice per year and perform accounting reviews of internal controls, finance roles and responsibilities, reviewing transactions for compliance, testing petty cash and assessing field office accounting staff; 
  • Perform formal review of field office monthly reports as part of global review rotation (coordinated with HQ) and prepare monthly report cards based on results of review for submission to regional, field office and finance leadership; 
  • Review QuickBooks transactions weekly; 
  • Coordinate and provide oversight to process for external audits of field offices required as part of country registration and as part of organizational annual audit; and 
  • Provide assistance in fraud investigations and participate in overall strategy to avoid fraud.
Field Office Accounting 
  • Provide technical support through regular email, chat and phone interaction with field office on specific areas including accounting, policies & procedures, QuickBooks and grant compliance;
  • Act as backup for field office accounting staff during extended absences or vacancies; 
  • Assist Field Office Directors in registration and compliance with tax requirements for country; and 
  • Assist in establishing new field offices including setting up QuickBooks, bank accounts, internal controls and hiring and training staff.
HQ Liaison 
  • Act as liaison between HQ and field offices regarding key finance areas including policy & procedure development, training material & strategy development, compliance/risk management, staff development, registration & taxes and banking; 
  • Provide input on key strategies to continue growth and expansion of organization including development of a global financial system, audit/monitoring strategy and improving monthly close; 
  • Participate in weekly phone calls with International Finance Officer; and 
  • Participate in periodic regional and global meetings.
Required Skills and Experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent;
  • CPA or equivalent preferred; 
  • A minimum of four years accounting experience preferably for an NGO. 
  • Accounting experience should include hands on accounting as well as financial analysis, budget preparation and compliance; 
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP, such as debits and credits, cash versus accrual accounting and financial statement preparation; 
  • Experience with accounting software preferably QuickBooks; 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (or equivalent); 
  • Experience handling registration and tax requirements in Africa; 
  • Exceptional ability in written and spoken English; and 
  • Experience leading and training staff in cross-cultural settings.
