3. Graduate Engineering Trainees

Chief Engineer

The successful candidate will have the primary responsibility for effective management and control of all engineering and maintenance activities in respect to plant, equipment, infrastructure and social amenities.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the key responsibilities of the Chief Engineer will be to:

Develop the maintenance strategy and plans so as to ensure the continuous availability of assets in line with production plans.In consultation with the Chief Operating Officer and Head of Manufacturing, manage the implementation of the maintenance plans in a manner that ensures timely delivery, cost effectiveness and continuous improvement in respect to operational efficiency and reliability.Develop and control the departmental maintenance and engineering budget in consultation with the Managing Director and the Finance department.Ensure that the section's operations are in compliance with regulatory, technical and corporate standards and procedures, including Safety, Health and environmental sustainability.Take responsibility for generating or reviewing and approving major maintenance recommendations.Continually review engineering operations, work systems, equipment and techniques and activities and generate improvement and modernisation plans.Preside over the effective implementation of the company's Asset Health Care programme.Provide leadership and professional guidance to the entire engineering team so as to embed world class Maintenance Engineering practices.In consultation with the Director of Human Resources, take responsibility for the management of boundaries, easements and leases, in a manner that ensures legal compliance and safeguard relationships with neighbours.Take charge of Energy cost management initiatives, modernisation of all specialist engineering services, including: power generation, project development and civil works.Lead, develop and motivate staff and enforce corporate HR initiatives.BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.Minimum of ten years experience in the heavy manufacturing industry, of which at least five years would be at a managerial level.Exposure to electrical and instrumentation maintenance, mechanical maintenance and major projects essential.Registration with Engineers Registration Board.Commercial exposureEffective leadership, communication, interpersonal, organisation and planning skills.Workshop Services Manager

The Workshop Services Manager will have the primary focus of providing effective and efficient workshop and fleet services to agreed standards, budgets and timelines.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the duties and responsibilities of the Workshop Services Manager will be to:

Monitor and control workshop services to ensure that jobs are completed on time and within the budgetPlan materials requirement, liaise with procurement and stores to ensure that materials are available on time while ensuring appropriate levels of inventoryManaging the workshop stock items to ensure optimum availabilityEnsure that the process of scrapping workshop items is in line with Company policyMaintain up to date equipment service records and ensure service schedules are adhered toEnsure that the office and workshop premises are kept to the highest standards of house keeping possibleMaintain the asset register for all machines and vehicles Establish and maintain methods of consistently tracking productivity, efficiency and work qualityManage individual employee performance and effectivenessManage department expenses effectivelyUniversity degree in Engineering. Training in management will be an added advantage.Minimum of five (5) years relevant experienceExcellent understanding of Ms Office packagesWell developed managerial and administrative skillsWorking knowledge of workshop and fleet management systemsExcellent interpersonal skills and unquestionable integrityGraduate Engineering Trainees

We require Graduate Engineering Trainees who will be trained in the various aspects of our maintenance, production and supply chain aspects of our operations in line with applicable engineering discipline.

Design of highways and railways using AutoCAD and other software as necessary
Assist in co-ordinating activities on construction sites being managed by the Company Production of drawings using design software, AutoCAD and other computer programs as necessary;

Qualifications and Competencies
B.Sc Degree (Civil / Structural Engineering).
Registration with Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or any other body recognised by EBK will be an added advantage.
At least 7 years post-graduation working experience gained in a busy consultancy environment. Experience in hydrological studies and highway design shall be an added advantage.
Knowledge of CAD design software for highways and railways, specifically CIVIL 3D and PRO-VI preferred.

Position: Resident Engineer – Highways
  Key Responsibilities
In charge of the day-to-day financial, technical and administrative functions of the project supervision team.
Responsible to the Operations Manager – Contracts and the Project Director for the management of the project.

Qualifications and Key Competencies
BSc Degree (Civil Engineering); MSc an added advantage.
Registered with the Engineers’ Registration Board of Kenya (ERB / EBK) or a recognized equivalent professional engineering body.
At least 15 years of progressive post-qualification experience in highway engineering (planning, design and construction supervision).
At least 5 years experience as a Resident Engineer on major highway projects.
Experience on evaluation of contractor’s claims.
Sound knowledge of Construction Contracts, especially and specifically FIDIC Conditions of Contract;
Ability to prioritize, plan, program, coordinate, delegate and monitor work programs of project teams comprising engineers and technicians;

Position: Deputy Resident Engineer / Measurement Engineer (Highways)
  Key Responsibilities
Deputizing for the Resident Engineer on all technical and administrative matters of the project supervision.
Responsible to the Resident Engineer for all site measurement works.
In charge of the survey and inspectorate teams on site.

Qualifications and Key Competencies
BSc Degree (Civil Engineering) or equivalent; MSc an added advantage.
Registered with the Engineers’ Registration Board of Kenya (ERB /EBK) or a recognized equivalent professional engineering body.
At least 10 years of progressive post-qualification experience in highway engineering (planning, design and construction supervision).
At least 8 years experience as a Measurement Engineer or Resident Engineer on major highway projects.
Knowledge of Construction Contracts, and specifically FIDIC Conditions of Contract.

Position: Senior Structural Engineer – Buildings
  Key Responsibilities
Provision of design and construction supervision inputs in respect of projects being undertaken by the Company

Qualifications and Key Competencies

Liaising with clients and other consultants, where necessary, in the course of project delivery

Qualifications and Key Competencies
B.Sc Degree (Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering).

Job Purpose
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and executing the overall business strategy for the Company and translating Board and shareholder mandates to the business and representing management to the board.

Key Result Area / Principle Accountabilities and Duties

Educational and Professional Qualifications, and Work Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Management or Law from a recognized university;
  • Must have a relevant Masters degree from a recognized University;
  • Be a member of a professional body in the relevant professional field;
  • 8 years traceable experience and knowledge of corporate governance, 5 years of which must be at senior management level and three (3 years) in Utility Management;
  • Proven change management credentials.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Must demonstrate team management, excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Have a clear understanding of the Vision and Mission of the company and ability to translate the company’s activities and plans in realization of the same;
  • Ability to provide sound leadership in managing a diverse workforce;
  • Must be a person of high integrity;
  • Excellent knowledge in computer operating packages;
  • Active participation at community level;
  • Demonstrate experience in driving change and initiate growth in an organization;
  • Ability to lead a team in a dynamic environment.
The position is senior and demand excellent people management and development skills, written and oral communication skills both in English and Kiswahili, and high degree of honesty and integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Minimum requirements

Valid driving license with minimum 2 year experience;
IT proficiency skills in MS office suite;
Knowledge and skills in Wimax systems, Microwave backhaul systems backed by professional certification;
Knowledge and Skills on Network Management systems for Wimax networks and Point to Point systems;
Analytical skills and ability to monitor and explain trends and variances;
Ability to meet strict deadlines and to work without supervision;
Ability to relate well with both internal and external customers and work in teams;
Skills and ability to train others and enhance their skills and competencies.
