KIE Senior Deputy Director (Curriculum and Research Services) and TIVET Assistant Director Jobs in Kenya



The Kenya Institute of Education (KIE) wishes to recruit qualified professionals for various vacant positions as outlined below:

Senior Deputy Director (Curriculum and Research Services)
Scale KIE 15 (1 Post)

Senior Deputy Director, Curriculum and Research Services (SDDCRS) will be answerable to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on matters of curriculum development and research.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities at this level will entail:
  • Formulating, implementing and reviewing plans, objectives and strategies related to curriculum development and research including mobilization of resources;
  • Coordinating research and directing development of relevant and quality curriculum and curriculum support materials;
  • Liaising with stakeholders to ensure standards in curricula offered in learning institutions;
  • Ensuring effective orientation of curriculum implementers and;
  • Coordinating monitoring and review of the curriculum on a continuous basis.
Requirements for appointment

For appointment to this grade an officer must be:
  • A holder of at least a Masters Degree in Education or related field with a relevant working experience at the level of Deputy Director KIE scale 14 or in comparable and relevant position for at least three(3) years;
  • Knowledgeable in national and international trends in development of curriculum, curriculum support materials and research.
Assistant Director, Technical Industrial, Vocational, Entrepreneurship Training (TIVET)
Scale 12
One (1) Post

The Assistant Director TIVET will be in charge of Engineering Section (Mechanical).

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the development of relevant and quality curriculum and curriculum support materials;
  • Initiate and participate in curriculum orientation activities;
  • Coordinate activities of subject and course panels and;
  • Initiate research, monitoring and evaluation activities.
Requirement for Appointment

A Masters degree in Technical, Industrial, Vocational or Entrepreneurship studies or related field from a recognized institution and at least three (3) years working experience in a TIVET area at KIE Scale 11 or in a comparable position.

Applicants with a Bachelors degree in Education or its equivalence in technical/industrial/entrepreneurship or related field with at least six (6) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which must have been at KIE Scale 11 or comparable position.

Demonstrated professional competence in curriculum development in TIVET or related areas.

Those whose specialization is in Mechanical Engineering; or Water Engineering; or Electrical Engineering; or Surveying and Mapping are encouraged to apply.

The main duties and responsibilities will include:
• Ensuring that all the institution’s systems and process are efficient;

• Preparing annual reports;
• Ensuring maintenance of high audit standards within the department and adherence to plans, budgets and work schedules, ensuring compliance with existing regulation, instructions and procedures in financial and other operation;

• Bachelor of Commerce degree (Accounting /Finance option)
• Certified Public Accountant Part II Examination; CPA III will be an added advantage
• Served as Auditor or a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service or private sector for a minimum period of three (3) years;
• Membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) or Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)
• Demonstrate outstanding professional competence, leadership qualities and high integrity

• Oversee the effective maintenance of the Fixed Asset Register;
• Managing finances and procurement functions;
• Ensuring adherence to appropriate accounting systems;
• Interpreting financial/accounting policies, procedure, standard rules and regulations;
• Ensuring timely preparation of financial statements and accounts;
• Dealing with audit queries;
• Maintaining the Vote Book;
• Verifying the payroll;
• Preparing Financial Management Accounts and Statutory Reports.
For appointment to this position, a candidate must have
• Have a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option), Business Administration (Accounting Option)from a recognized institution or any other relevant equivalent qualification
• A qualified accountant with CPA II, ACCA or equivalent professional qualifications;
• Progressive work experience as Senior Accountant or equivalent position in a public/private institution for at least 3 years;
• Good understanding and experience in all aspects of accounting and financial management, including management of donor funds
• Exposure to computerized financial systems and experience in public sector accounting;
• Be a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (ICPAK)
