Tdh Psychosocial Trainer Job in Kenya


Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh) is an international NGO focussed on Child Rights. 
To support the development of its Child Protection programme in Garissa County, Tdh is encouraging applications from Kenyan nationals for the role of:

Psychosocial Trainer


Reporting to: Child Protection Project Manager
Duty station: Dadaab, Garissa County
Contract duration: 9 months (with 3-month probation period)

Main responsibilities:
  • To be responsible, under the supervision of the Child Protection Project Manager, for psychosocial training for animators in a community centre.
  • To coordinate psychosocial activities for children, youth, girls, adults in the community centre and provide on-the-job training to animators conducting the activities.
  • To provide training to teachers and other camp based actors on Child Protection and Psychosocial support.
  • To participate and take lead in awareness and sensitisation activities organised in the refugee camp.
Requirements:
  • Minimum diploma-level education in related field (child protection, education, sociology, ECD..).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in projects supporting children with a CFS, recreation or ECD component.
  • Strong experience as a trainer for various community groups required.
  • Proven ability to develop training manuals using participative and creative methodology.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili. Ability to communicate in Somali is an asset.

1. Programme Quality & Design Director

1 Position

Based in Nairobi with field travel

Job purpose

S/He will ensure that Save the Children UK Programme in Kenya delivers technically sound programmes that attract significant donor funding and contributes significantly to national/global learning, advocacy and programme development.

As part of the core Senior Management Team, the post-holder will also contribute to the development and/review of the country strategic direction and policy formulation.

The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating effective programming in Save the Children UK Kenya, lead in the development of thematic plans and technical content of project proposals based on comprehensive and sound technical analysis of child rights situations in country, informed by innovative models for improving children’s rights and in line with donor strategy and guidelines.

Person Specification:
  • Masters degree in Development Studies or Social Sciences or relevant thematic discipline with minimum seven (7) years of INGO experience in programme development and implementation at senior management level

Job purpose

Under the general direction and guidance of the Programme Design and Quality Director, the incumbent will ensure that health programming is of excellent technical quality, attracts significant donor funding and contributes significantly to Save the Children’s strategic objectives, national/global learning and advocacy.

The post holder is expected to provide technical advice and support to project staff to ensure programming objectives are successfully achieved.

The post-holder will also contribute and support the implementation of the Newborn and Child Survival Strategy.

Person Specification:
  • A health professional with a Masters degree in public health or equivalent with minimum five years (5) professional experience at a senior advisory level in health for international NGOs or the private sector in Kenya
  • Excellent understanding of the health sector within the Kenyan context, particularly maternal, newborn and child health issues
  • Proven representation and advocacy skills
  • Strong commitment to capacity building of national staff and partners with willingness to adopt participatory and consultative approaches

3. Child Survival Research & Advocacy Advisor

Job purpose

Under the supervision of the Programme Quality Director and in close collaboration with the technical advisory team, the Research and Advocacy Advisor will lead the development of SC Kenya’s research and advocacy agenda.

The postholder will ensure information and data generated by SCUK programmes contributes to national and global advocacy efforts that improve child survival outcomes for children.

Person Specification:
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred, with minimum five (5) years international experience in humanitarian work
  • Solid background in programming and policy analysis or advocacy is desired
  • Working knowledge of the dynamics of managing programmes with government, donor and implementing partners
  • Demonstrable experience of high level conceptual, strategic thinking and analysis

Job Purpose

Under the general direction and guidance of the Programme Design and Quality Director expand Save the Children UK’s portfolio of child protection programming and ensure this programming is of excellent technical quality.

S/He will build on technical knowledge, personal understanding of the operation of child protection policy and services in Dadaab, current/previous programming to develop proposals for new programming in close coordination with the programme staff, ensure all new programming supports the achievement of Save the Children’s strategic and thematic objectives, in particular Child Protection in Emergencies.

S/He will be responsible for drawing links between child protection and other sectors and regularly assess and communicate the implications and priorities of any changes in the operating environment relevant to this theme in close collaboration with other relevant advisor(s).

Person Specification:
  • A Masters degree in social sciences or relevant field with minimum five (5) years professional experience at field-based and /or advisory level in child protection at an international-level
  • Proven national or preferably international-level representation, analysis and advocacy skills

1 Position

Based in Nairobi

Job Purpose

The Report and Proposal Co-ordinator will monitor the timely submission of quality reports and proposals to donors.

The Co-ordinator will support the Senior Management Team members and Technical Advisors to plan for upcoming calls for proposals and reporting deadlines and where necessary, s/he will serve as a primary writer for the development of proposals and reports.

Person specification
  • Demonstrated experience of writing winning proposals for different key institutional donors and Save the Children Members
  • Demonstrated experience of reporting and proposal development in at least three of Save the Children’s thematic areas namely child protection, health, nutrition, food security & livelihoods, and education

6. County Coordinator

Job Purpose

The County Coordinator will ensure the coordination of the Improving Resilience and Reducing Dependence (IRRD) Project Consortium activities within the county.

The incumbent will report directly to the Consortium Manager but also work closely with Drought Management Officer, IRRD Consortium and other partners within the county to support the mapping and documentation of various organizational activities within the County, ensure a relevant monitoring of drought early warning systems in the County, through the formally agreed monitoring system and to participate in the existing partners’ network at district level, ensuring that the IRRD Consortium and its’ activities are fully represented at key technical forums.

Personal Specification
  • University degree in Agriculture/ livestock production or socio-economic development related fields. Masters degree or relevant qualification in Monitoring and Evaluation is preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in M & E with an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) in a developing country

Deputy Human Resources Manager

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the following among other duties:
  • Assist in implementing all Human Resources programmes, activities and plans for the company and the subsidiaries ¡n and outside the country.
  • Developing and maintaining sound Human Resources policies, systems and procedures.
  • Facilitation and coordination of all staff recruitment and staff induction in the company and our subsidiaries in and outside the country.

Qualifications.
  • A bachelors Degree ¡n Social Sciences, Humanities from a recognized University plus an MBA
  • A postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources Management from a recognized institution.
  • Must be computer literate.
Requirements
  • Must have at least seven years experience ¡n Human Resources management in a large organization with at least 3 years at a senior management level.
  • Must have adequate experience in Manpower planning and recruitment in a rapidly expanding organization.
  • Must have proven track record of people and office management skills.
  • Must be willing to undertake frequent assignments to our subsidiaries outside the country.
  • Excellent experience and knowledge of current labour laws, procedures, policies and other relevant legislations in Kenya and subsidiary host countries.
  • Must have excellent writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be honest, transparent and with high level of integrity.

The rehabilitation project in Dadaab aims to provide and secure tangible and measurable improvement of independency in activities of daily living and quality of life of refugees living with physical impairment or disability.

The Position

Under the responsibility of the Program Director (PD) and in collaboration with the Technical Coordination unit and the Support Services hosted in the regional office, the Field Coordinator (FC) has the overall responsibility of implementing Handicap International’s (HI) mandate in North Eastern Province of Kenya.

He/She will be ensuring the overall oversight and leadership of the different projects as well as ensuring proper representation of the organisation vis-à-vis external stakeholders.

He/she will be responsible for :-

1. Ensuring a proper representation of the organisation in-country, the FC will:
  • Ensure that HI operates within the existing national legal and informal frameworks hence promoting/sustaining close and coordinated cooperation with the local authorities and other non-state actors
  • Make sure that HI interventions are adapted to the local context, with due respect to HI mandate, ethical principles and values;
2. Participating in the preparation/review/evaluation of the Kenya/Somalia programme’s multiannual strategy and be responsible for the implementation of the projects in North Eastern Province

3. Ensuring smooth running of the area interventions and to make sure the set objectives are achieved and services delivered to the beneficiaries in a timely and efficient manner, the Field Coordinator will:
  • Foster the resource mobilization efforts
  • Coordinate the optimal allocation and utilization of all necessary resources within a structured framework
4. Ensuring accountability and knowledge management are considered at all stages of the project cycle with a particular attention to project implementation, the Country Coordinator will:
  • Ensure adequate M&E processes are in place with due consideration to reporting requirements
  • Promote the projects interventions and key findings within and outside HI
5. Spearheading Human Resource Management towards staff empowerment by
  • Providing constructive supervision to staff under direct management (especially supporting them for staff management, quality assurance in project implementation; proposal developments; partnership management; reporting) be attentive to their individual and collective progress; validate IAPs, conduct annual appraisals, provide guidance and support, maintain their ownership of JDs and IAPs
6. Maintaining quality communication and reporting by
  • Ensuring documentation and knowledge management systems are in place and used to inform project planning, implementation and strategic development
7. Ensuring security at field level of personnel and assets by
  • Contributing to the periodic review and update the security plan
  • Enforcing the security plan at field level: ensure all staff are aware of it and fall in line with it
8. Ensuring overall financial management at station level by
  • Optimizing the utilization of funds geared towards running cost for the station
  • Contributing to resource mobilization efforts through support to project teams in proposal writing
Conditions

Living conditions in Dadaab camp (NGO/UNHCR compound) may be challenging (remote area, climate very hot), although facilities are offering minimum of comfort.

R&R leave of 7 days will be provided every 8 weeks of continuous accommodation within Dadaab.

Qualifications and experience required :-
  • At least a Masters Degree in a Social Sciences or a related field
  • Knowledge of financial and logistics procedures and/or systems.
  • At least 5 years working experience in a humanitarian/development project or set up
  • Should have experience working with persons with disability and community initiatives
  • Good report writing and presentation skills
  • Good communication, interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet.
  • Experience with International NGO is an added advantage.
  • People management skills.
  • Have the capacity to network and partner with other organizations.

Regional Coordinator: WWF Africa Climate Change Adaptation Initiative

Reporting to the Conservation Director, WWF Eastern & Southern Africa Programme (WWF-ESARPO), the Regional Coordinator has overall responsibility to coordinate the activities of the Feasibility Phase of the WWF Regional Climate Change Adaptation Initiative in Africa so as to assist WWF offices in Africa to integrate climate change considerations into their work programmes in order to safeguard high value conservation areas and local livelihoods in the areas in which WWF works through support for capacity building, climate change adaptation planning, vulnerability assessments and implementation of adaptation measures.

Conducts inventory of WWF offices engaging in adaptation and the capacity in WWF offices in adaptation.

Develops communications materials on WWF in Africa’s role in adaptation and ongoing activities in collaboration with WWF offices, and participates in relevant regional forum meetings, with the purposes of expanding our networking abilities, sharing WWF’s experiences and lessons learnt, and identifying possible opportunities for collaboration and growth.

Facilitates the development of a vision and strategy for climate change adaptation in WWF activities in Africa.

Provides technical support for implementation of, and coordinates with, existing WWF adaptation initiatives.

Provides technical inputs to POs and country offices for their funding proposals for climate change adaptation.

Develops annual plans and budgets in conjunction with the Oversight Committee.

Develop a proposal for the second phase of the initiative

Key Requirements are:
  • An advanced degree in environmental, natural or social science or any relevant qualification.
  • 10 years relevant experience in environmental and development fields, including in the following areas:
  1. Climate change adaptation, experience in undertaking vulnerability assessments and climate change adaptation planning is preferred.
  2. Working with African governments.
  3. Coordinating multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  4. Working in a multi-cultural environment in Africa.
  5. Project and programme design, management, monitoring and evaluation, including budget development and management.
  6. Grant / funding programmes.
  7. Multilateral Environmental Agreements and Multilateral policy processes.
Required Special Skills and Knowledge
  • Climate issues in Africa and developing countries
  • Challenges faced in conservation and development in Africa.
  • Climate change in terms of its impacts on the natural resources WWF works to conserve, and the people with whom WWF works to improve their livelihoods, and how the two are intrinsically interlinked.
  • Climate change vulnerability assessments and adaptation planning.
  • Academic, government, and non-governmental organisations active in the climate change fora and debates in Africa.
  • Fluent in English, knowledge of French and / or Portuguese ideal.
