UNEP's Division of Communications and Public Information (DCPI) communicates UNEP's core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness, influencing attitudes, behavior and decisions related to the local and global environment, and enhancing the profile of UNEP worldwide. This post is located in UNEP/DCPI at the Nairobi duty station. Under the general supervision of Head of Audiovisual Unit, the incumbent will perform the following duties: Assist with video shooting and still photography for statements, special events, press conference and UNEP outreach activities;Assist in converting video material to various formats, titling and mixing, optimizing and maintaining correct aspect ratio, identify appropriate video and audio materials for individual productions;Optimize video material for online distribution; ensure it is properly indexed in the multimedia database;Record Executive Director’s video messages;Maintain the video library; Log original tapes and code them according to themes for easy reference when preparing edit kits;Provide support to the production of film/video or radio programmes by conducting original research for feature items and other material; Make recommendations on programme content, structure/style, interviews, narration texts and elements to be edited; Assist in writing of narrations, short articles and summary excerpts; Conduct interviews, act as location producer, participate in post production editing, oversee production of language translation/adaptations and ensure cost effectiveness;Assist key officials, delegates and other UN offices in arranging press conferences and briefings; Handle logistics with essential services;Assist to provide coverage and photography work to enhance UNEP graphic designs, online and media outlet;Provide stock footage to partners;Assist in setting up and operate video projection equipment;Record and edit sound material for podcasts and radio programmes;Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

A minimum of 7 years of responsible work experience in audio-visual media production, electronic media, video and photography with knowledge of computer video editing is required.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations languages an asset.

Other Skills
Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, internet) are required. Expertise in final cut pro and macintosh-based video editing and graphic software is required.

Responsibilities
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General.     Appointment against this post is on a local basis. External candidates will be considered only when no suitable internal candidate from the duty station is identified. The candidate is responsible for any travel expenses incurred in order to take-up the appointment. Staff members are subject to the authority of and assignment by the Secretary-General.     Responsibilities
    The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This post is located in the Division of Administrative Services, Security and Safety Section at the Nairobi duty station. The incumbent reports to the Chief, Security and Safety Section.The incumbent is responsible for: (1) Providing leadership to the Team by; planning assignments of the team members during particular scheduled shifts, giving daily work instructions to the Assistant Team Leader and to members of the team, ensuring that team members are provided with uniforms, communications equipment and other kits necessary for duty, monitors posts to ensure that they are properly and effectively manned and that duties are properly executed, (2) Enforcing the overall safety and security in the UN Complex by; ensuring that security and safety rules and procedures are strictly adhered to, supervising Control Room duties to ensure that the electronic surveillance equipment is properly monitored and discussing reports of initial investigation with the Investigator, (3) Co-ordinating activities of the team with the Deputy Chief and Assistant Chief of the Security and Safety section by making daily reports on events, present periodical reports on all cases which have been investigated and making recommendations on planning and improvement of security work, (4) The security and safety of the UN Complex during the period of duty, ensuring that security equipment and vehicles are in good working order, supervising operations in the event of accidents, both independently and in cooperation with other rescue services or the Nairobi City Council Fire Brigade; preparing reports after incidents. Inspecting mail and deliveries entering the premises of the Organization and other agencies. Keeping ‘bomb alert’ plans and instructions up to date; conducting searches for suspicious items. Conducting preventive searches in cooperation with the specialized services. Liaising with the host country's de-mining services. Responding to requests for assistance requiring first aid; preparing reports on actions taken and (5) Responding to all general questions concerning the security and safety of the UN Complex. (6). Perform other duties as assgined.

  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Education
    Completion of secondary school or equivalent. Sound and thorough knowledge of security related matters.

    Work Experience
    Minimum 6 years experience in the National Police Force or Military Service. United Nations experience is an advantage.

    Languages
    English is the working language of the duty station. For this post fluency in English is required. Fluency in Kiswahili is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language would be an asset.

    Other Skills
    Certified knowledge or sound experience in the handling of firearms. Thorough knowledge of security related matters. Knowledge of communication equipment. Sound knowledge of first aid. Qualification in first aid training is an asset. Knowledge of self-defense techniques.
