Project Manager Job in Naivasha Kenya - Construction Industry job


Project Manager
 
Role
 
The Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating the activities of consultants and contractors in a large mixed project in Naivasha involving both infrastructure and buildings. 
He will be deployed as the Principal Project Officer to be based on site and head office. He will report to the Managing Director for day-to-day matters and give periodic reports to the Board of the Company. 
The Project Manager will be employed on an initial contract of TWO years which will be renewed for a further period of TWO years upon a satisfactory report of performance.
 
Responsibilities
 
1. To track and report on the implementation plan for the project by various Contractors
 
2. To establish and run the Site-based Project Management office
 
3. Develop and implement project communication and reporting strategy and plans including communication formats and templates.
 
4. Effectively and constantly communicate project expectations to the Contractors
 
5. Report on Construction progress on an ongoing basis to the Board of Directors of the Company.
 
6. Brief the Managing Director on all matters relating to the project on a frequent and regular basis
 
7. Establish and present to the Board annual budgets for running the Project Management Office.
 
8. Report to the Board on needs for additional staff and make appropriate requisitions for recruitments if necessary during the project cycle.
 
9. Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
 
10. Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
 
11. Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
 
12. Identify and promote to the Contractors project dependencies and critical paths.
 
13. Plan, schedule and promote project timelines and milestones to the Contractors using appropriate tools.
 
14. Track project milestones and deliverables and negotiate with the Contractors appropriate strategies for their achievement .
 
15. Develop and present progress and status reports.
 
16. Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
 
17. Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout project life cycle.
 
18. Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work and roles.
 
19. Conduct activity post-mortems and create a recommendations in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
 
20. Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management and promote them to the Contractors and the Board.
Qualification Requirements

1. A University degree in Building Economics/Quantity Surveying or Construction Management or Architecture or Civil Engineering
 
2. Post-graduate qualifications at Masters degree level or Qualifications and Certification as a Project Manager from a recognised body.
 
3. A minimum of 5 years direct work experience in a project management capacity including for a multi-billion project, including all aspects of project process development and execution.
 
4. Strong familiarity with project management software, such as Microsoft Project and Primavera
 
5. Demonstrated experience in personnel management.
 
6. Technically competent with various reporting software programs, such as Microsoft word and excel.
 
7. Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
 
8. Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analysis and reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
 
9. Flexible during times of change.
 
10. Ability to read communication styles of team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
 
11. Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating.
 
12. Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including the Board, contractors, and other stakeholders.
 
13. Ability to defuse tension among project teams, should it arise.
 
14. Strong written and oral communication skills.
 
15. Strong interpersonal skills.
 
16. Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products.
 
17. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Lake Victoria North Water Services Board (LVNWSB) is one of the eight Water Services Boards established under the Water Sector Reforms Programme through the Water Act 2002 for the purpose of bringing about efficiency and sustainability in the provision of water supply and sanitation services in the country. 
The Board was established through Kenya Gazette Notice No. 1717 of 12th March, 2004 and licensed by the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) on 11th May, 2007.
 
Lake Victoria North Water Services Board covers seven counties including the entire Western Province and parts of the Rift Valley Province. Geographically, this translates to about 14,000 square kilometers, with an estimated population of about 7,000,000 people.

Lake Victoria North Water Services Board is seeking to recruit a suitable self driven, result oriented and highly qualified individual to fill the position of the Chief Executive Officer.
Key Responsibilities
 
The Chief Executive Officer will be responsible to the Board of Directors, and shall be the Principal Officer of the Board responsible for the overall leadership and implementation of the Board mandate and aspirations as may be outlined in the performance targets and strategic plan.
 
Job Profile
  • Carrying out day-to-day business of the Board to ensure that departments, sections and units conform to the overall operations plans and performance targets.

  • Advising the Board of Directors concerning future activities of the Board and also on the objectives and policies while eliminating any form of risks which would affect the smooth management of the organization.
  • Ensuring compliance with Government’s policy and regulatory guidelines and directives.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or related discipline from a recognized university and be a registered member of ERB or relevant professional body where applicable;
  • A Masters degree in Engineering or Water Sciences, or Business Management/ Administration will be an added advantage;
  • Should have at least ten (10) years of experience in a Water and Sanitation Sector, and at least 5 years in Senior Management position;
  • Should have undergone a Corporate Governance/Leadership Course in a recognized institution;
  • Should have experience of implementing donor funded projects;
  • Should have track history of integrity, creativity, innovation, self drive and result orientation.
  • Should have exceptional visionary leadership and negotiation skills with capacity to engage with local, regional and international organizations:
  • Should have excellent communication and presentation skills, strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational and team capacities and high professional ethical standing.
  • Should be self-driven and capable of working under minimum supervision;

  • Planning for long term and short term programmes in water supply and sewerage systems including feasibility studies.

Education, Professional Qualifications and Work Experience:

  • Must be registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya;
  • 5 years experience with at least 3 years in a senior management position;
  • Traceable experience in implementing corporate strategy in a dynamic environment.
Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Should posses excellent interpersonal communication skills and experience in dealing with donor agencies;
  • Should posses sound and excellent business development knowledge and skills gained preferably in the water sector or in a busy and dynamic organization
  • Must have excellent understanding of the Kenyan water reforms
  • Must be able to lead a team in a dynamic work environment;
  • Posses relevant computer application skills;
  • Posses leadership qualities and be a team player with a high degree of integrity and ability to relate across different professional functions and situations;

Reporting to the WASH coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for initiating and completing implementation of WASH activities to include managing construction activities, verifying quality of construction work by the field sites.

Performing technical evaluations of the needs of the population by visiting various camps and evaluating water, hygiene and sanitation options, designing an intervention strategy and training of ACF technical supervisors on procedures and standards in the field.

Qualifications and Skills required

  • Experience in working in camp contexts
  • Sound expertise in strengthening the capacities of WASH personnel
  • Good knowledge of community dynamics, mobilization and participation
  • Excellent knowledge of public health and public health promotion
  • 2-5 years work experience with an international humanitarian agency in a similar capacity
  • Management skills are essential (e.g. planning and follow up, HR, budgets, etc.)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and reporting skills.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office, Windows etc.
  • Fluency in English, with good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a Somali Muslim environment with limitations in terms of movement, dress, etc. And the ability to manage culturally sensitive issues.
  • Ability to work independently and in isolation and to work under pressure within strict time limits
  • Capacity to deal with complex emergency scenarios and make quick decisions.
  • High degree in motivation, result oriented creativeness and adaptability.
