Organizational background
The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance relief, emergency school feeding, humanitarian air and logistics services, food co-ordination and emergency rehabilitation projects.

Supervision: Under the direct supervision of the National IT Officer, Infrastructure and IT Support and the overall supervision of the ICT Unit Head, the incumbent undertakes the following responsibilities:
Major Duties and Responsibility: 

  • Plan, schedule, supervise and/or carry-out maintenance of electrical systems in the Sub-Offices including generators, Air conditioners and other electrical appliances;
  • Estimate energy requirements and recommend/ease the procurement process of adequate generator size/model and spare parts;
  • Calculate and size generator and electrical installations;
  • Oversee the provision of a permanent power supply to the office and accommodation facilities by supervising the operation of the power generators and other source of electrical powers including solar energy.
  • Support   offices as requested by the operation and roam in field offices to provide support in the maintenance of generators and other electrical systems.
  • Coordinate with any required external contracting, servicing or intervention needed for any electrical installation;
  • Provide written requests for materials and keep detailed reports on storage and usage of these materials;
  • Maintain a log file for each generator recording time of maintenance/servicing
  • Prepare a monthly report on generators fuel consumption in collaboration with the administration Unit and timely alert on identified malfunction of the machines.
  • Implement electrical protection of all equipment to meet maximum safety of the installations, equipment and facilities including automated changeover switch and grounding.
  • Advise and prepare specifications for the process of procurement of generators and generator spare parts;
  • Design and plan the installation of generators and oversee the maintenance and operation of the generators;
  • Administer  the generator management database;
  • Coordinate generator operations in the field in collaboration with the technical staff on the ground;
  • Analyze data on the generators spare parts, oil and fuel consumption, identify and report possible over consumption .
  • Monitor and control the proper usage of stock of spare parts, oil and fuel for generators;
  • Participate in the selection and the training of  staff and contractors, plan, oversee the work performed as required and ensure it meets the standard
  • Perform other related duties are required.
      Minimum qualifications:
Education: Satisfactory completion of secondary school education formal certification in electrics. 
      Experience: At least six years of progressively responsible hands-on electrical or electronics experience including deploying, troubleshooting, maintaining and managing domestic and light industrial electricity wiring and distribution systems.
Knowledge: Skilled in PC competence, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard
      WFP software packages and systems. General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and        procedures governing human resources administration.
Language:           Fluency in written and oral English and other UN working language is desirable.
Desirable skills: Preferably hands-on experience in deploying, troubleshooting and maintaining single and three phase generators,      
      diesel or petrol fuelled, in the range from 2 KVA to 250 KVA; knowledge and experience in the maintaining and troubleshooting the mechanical part of generators is a plus. Hands-on experience in deploying, troubleshooting and maintaining UPS and voltage regulator systems ranging from 0.5 to 60 KVA.
