Reproductive Health Officer - Handicap International Jobs



Position:     Reproductive Health Officer     
Responsible to:  Center in Charge
Location:    Kitale         
Closing Date:    5th July 2010 

THE ORGANIZATION 

Handicap International  is an INGO specialising in the field of disability and development. A strong emphasis is placed on empowering people with disabilities through their integration into mainstream development activities and the provision of appropriate health and rehabilitation services to ensure equal opportunities for all. Handicap International is currently implementing an integrated HIV and AIDS project in West Pokot and Trans-Nzoia Districts. 

THE POSITION 

The Reproductive Health Officer is under supervision of the Center in Charge. He/she is expected to adhere to the code of ethics published by National VCT guidelines in the performance of his/her duties.
Regarding his/her competence and profession as a nurse, the Officer is charged with the duty of designing, planning and implementing reproductive health services at a youth centre level in accordance to Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation. 
He/ she is responsible for 

        1. Ensuring proper implementation of reproductive Health services at Chanuka by
  • Co-ordinating the reproductive health service delivery to youths and general population within the centre.
  • Providing HIV counseling and testing services in the center and mobile VCT.
  • Mobilizing and promoting Reproductive Health Information services provided at center, in schools and through other community based groups.
  • Facilitating youth recreational activities at the center and infuse reproductive health activities within other departments/activities of the centre.
  • Reinforcing the referral system of the clients between the center  and other service providers
  • Providing capacity building to the community volunteers and to CBOs involved in the project implementation to enhance progressive phasing out of Handicap International in realisation of project activities.
  • Participating as a key member to the implementation of the overall project, as well as the definition of future strategy for the programme.
   2.  Ensuring regular monitoring and reporting on activities
           3. Creating a good working relationship between HI and the main external linkages  
Qualifications and skills required :- 
  • Should be a Kenya Registered Community Health nurse
  • Should have a certificate in VCT counseling
  • Formal training in Reproductive Health
  • At least one year working experience in a youth health project
  • Good communication skills
  • Good report writing skills.
      -      Fluent in English and Kiswahili
      -      Should be youth oriented
      A PLUS: experience working with an International NGO
