Associate Regional Director Vacancy - PPFA Africa Regional Office


Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), an international non-governmental organization working in the field of reproductive health and rights, requires to fill the position of Associate Regional Director to be based at the Africa Regional Office (ARO) in Nairobi, Kenya.

Reporting directly to the Regional Director, the Associate Regional Director will be responsible for providing leadership in crafting ARO’s advocacy strategies and plans in target countries, developing and implementing a communication plan for the Regional Office, and for managing projects in select target countries.

This is a full time senior position.

The position is available immediately.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works with the Africa Regional Director to develop and implement the regional operational plan, and to contribute to improving systems and functioning of the programs in the focus countries.
  • Manages the Africa Regional Communications and Advocacy Program, working closely with the New York based Communications Director and Advocacy Program Manager, the country team leaders and program officers.
  • Supervises select regional program staff.
  • Provides support to regional staff in the development, implementation, and long-term viability of PPFA’s client-centered international sexual and reproductive health and rights projects.
  • Facilitates the improvement, quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of services and advocacy so that PPFA’s partners in the Africa Region can carry out their respective missions through monitoring and technical assistance to assigned projects.
  • Contributes to regional effort to improve program quality, coherence, and visibility by leading country teams, developing and implementing strategies to document and disseminate information about regional program models and advocacy initiatives, drafting donor documents, developing new projects, and training staff.
  • Represents the regional office throughout the region and internationally.
Qualifications and Experience

Education: Master's degree in public health, health administration, international development, social sciences or related field required.

Experience: Seven to eight years or more of progressively responsible advocacy, project planning, designing, monitoring and evaluation preferably with a reproductive health and rights focus in addition to financial management experience in the region.

Related Skills or Knowledge: Strong writing, editing, analytical, negotiation, interpersonal, facilitation and training, teambuilding, networking and problem-solving skills. Proven skills in project development and budget management. In addition, knowledge of reproductive health and rights issues in the region, ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and knowledge and sensitivity about cultural diversity are key. The candidate must have strong interest in international human and women’s rights and commitment to the empowerment of women.

Other Requirements: Ability to travel minimum of 40% time. Fluent in written and spoken English. French desirable. Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word).

Salary: A competitive package commensurate with experience and qualifications will be offered.
