Executive director job vacancy in Uganda

Akina Mama wa Afrika
Based in Kampala –Competitive salary and benefits

Background
Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) is an international, feminist, pan-African organization and a registered charity, established in 1985 by women from different parts of Africa, resident in the United Kingdom. Translated from Swahili, the name means ‘Solidarity among African Women’, signifying Sisterhood.  AMwA was founded to create space for African women to organize autonomously, identify issues of concern to them and speak for themselves.
Coordinating local, regional and international initiatives, AMwA’s aim is to serve primarily as a transformational feminist leadership development forum for African women.  In addition, AMwA provides space for women, both as individuals and as organizations, to network, develop their capacities to influence policy and decision making processes and share learning and information to contribute to broader development processes, both in developing and in developed countries.

Structure and Management
AMwA is registered as an International NGO in Uganda where the Headquarters are based.  It is also a registered charity in the UK, and a company limited by guarantee.  As part of its governance structures, AMwA has an International Executive Board made up of African women from across the continent and in the Diaspora.   The Board is supported by committees made up of members of the Board and other identified persons with specialized skills in areas of need.

AMwA’s central office is based in Kampala, Uganda, East Africa where we have offices and a current staff capacity of about 15 people.

Over the last year, members of staff and the board, allies and friends of AMwA have been working tirelessly to envision the next phase of AMwA’s development.  This space has provided us with rich interaction and engagement with partners and sisters alike in our quest to understand ourselves better and seek to improve what we do and the impact that we want to have on socio-economic and political spaces.

We are now looking for a new Executive Director who will take us into this next phase and walk this journey together in order to realise our dreams for feminist transformative leadership in every space.

Candidates

We are therefore looking for African feminist leaders who have the desire to see women achieve personal and political success and the determination to ensure that the organisation stays edge; relevant; competitive, fit-for-purpose and that it achieves the required results.
