Legal Officer


Duties and Responsibilities

  • To minimize company’s legal/ contractual liabilities by Planning, Strategising, Organising, Directing, executing and controlling.
  • To represent the company in criminal and civil litigation and other legal proceedings, draw up legal documents, and manage or advise company on legal transactions.
  • To instruct external lawyers to prepare and finalize all types of legal documentation on behalf of the company.
  • Handle all legal matters relating  to the group
  • Instruct and follow up with Advocates on litigation matters by and against the Company.
  • Gather evidence to formulate defense or to initiate legal actions; evaluate findings and develop strategies and arguments for presentation of cases.
  • Advise clients in business transactions, claim liability, advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits or legal rights and obligations.
  • Experience in matters relating to labour, drafting of contracts, Trademarks registration/renewals/protection.
  • Manage conveyance, debt recovery, legal compliance
  • Analyze and interpret laws, rulings and regulations with probable case outcomes for individuals and businesses.
  • Represent company in court or before government agencies, present and summarize cases to judges of a trial.
  • To review the legal documents received from external lawyers.
  • To instruct the Advocates to prepare the Licenses, Leases and/or Surrenders of Lease and to review the same.
  • To follow up with the Advocates for proper registration of all these documents.
  • Review general contractual documents involving the Company.
  • To collect, review and file the Kenya Gazette Editions and inform other concerned departments on any matters of note to them.
Key Competence
  • Bachelors of Legal Laws (LLB) or Company Secretary
  • Excellent legal aptitude
  • Tactical skills to win cases
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills
  • In depth knowledge of Motor Vehicles Act, WC, WIBA, common Law, Fatal accidents, Industrial Laws, Criminal laws, Insurance Laws, Contract Act,
  • General knowledge of other laws,
  • A minimum total relevant experience of 8-10 years. Candidates with court experience/ corporate exposure/ Insurance Co. experience will be preferred.
