An officer at this level will be responsible to the Principal Legal Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties at this level will include:
- ensuring that all NEMA legal instruments are developed and filed on time;
- maintaining records of all legal instruments;
- filing legal documents in court, maintaining and updating the Registry for Multilateral Environmental Agreements in consultation with the office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation;
- preparing briefs and coordinating preparatory meetings for Kenya’s delegation to international meetings relating to MEA’s;
- assisting in the development of by-laws and ensuring that they are in conformity with the Environmental Management Environmental Management and Coordination Act;
- liaising with other departments’ staff on drafting of legal documents;
- offering technical support to districts in the enforcement of the environmental laws;
- attending court proceedings; and
- advising interested groups and district authorities on the awareness of the environmental legislation.
For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized University
- Be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya
- Served as a Legal Officer or a comparable & relevant position for at least three (3) years;
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
