Key Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up company’s freight Logistics plan, analyze activities, update and continuously review and report to the Board of Directors
  • Responsible for handling Sea and Air Freight shipments clearance, Logistics and Transport requirements i.e. ensure efficient and effective delivery of good and materials through sound co-ordination, administration and management of Logistics & Transport/Freight operations.   • Monitor horticultural Logistics & Transport performance and advise the TAHA Fresh Board on the trend.
  • Managing, motivating, encouraging and supervising a team of Logistics and Operation Department towards achieving desired goal and maximum out come.

Role of the Position

Job Summary
Reporting to the Sanitation Officer at the camp level, the Tractor Driver shall be responsible for the transportation of
garbage, which is stored in skips, from the collection points at the camp level to the land – fill where the skips will be
emptied. The Tractor Driver supervises a team of loaders/solid waste workers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out garbage collection from the collection points to the land fill and dispose as required.
  • Perform other transport related duties as assigned which include monitoring of water supply and operations in the boreholes. In addition, he will give administrative support to the Water Supply Officer (WSO) and the plant operation & maintenance staff.
  • Maintaining borehole logs for the 6 boreholes
  • Supervise the team of loaders and provide training on the job as necessary.
  • Participate in community mobilization sessions for effective waste management.
  • Daily up keep and regular maintenance of the vehicle allocated.
  • Adherence to regulations as spelt out in the traffic act, insurance and CARE policy.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A current Driving license valid for class BCDE. Those licensed to drive other specialized articulated vehicles will have a definite advantage.
  • High school O level Certificate.
  • At least three years relevant experience as tractor driver.
  • A Grade 1 certificate in Motor vehicle mechanics and relevant experience will be an advantage.
  • Possess good technical knowledge and practices.
  • Should possess excellent supervision and leadership skills and ability to make quick and sound decisions.
  • Must have a good command of English and Kiswahili and able to write clearly in English.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a good team player.
  • First Aid certificate would be an asset.

Background
The objective of the African Monitoring of the Environment for Sustainable Development (AMESD) Project (funded by the European Development Fund) is to enhance monitoring for sustainable management of the environment thereby contributing to poverty alleviation. Within the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) region, the activities are focusing on the assessment and monitoring of land degradation and natural habitats for sustainable land management. The Regional Implementation Centre, the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC), a specialized institution providing climate information, prediction and early warning for applications in support of environmental management, is responsible for the overall management of the Thema and for developing the Natural Habitat Conservation (NHC) service. 
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the AMESD counterpart and the AMESD TA-TE, the driver will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • To drive the Project Staff and ensure the safe custody, timely and efficient collections and deliveries as instructed.
  • Drive the Project Staff and other authorized passengers as assigned.
  • Deliver and collect goods, parcels etc as required.
  • Facilitate occasional airport transfers of staff.
  • Pay utility bills and licenses.
  • Maintain the vehicle log book indicating mileage, task accomplished, departure and arrival times, fuel taken etc.
  • Carry out routine maintenance checks daily and report any observed faults to the supervisor.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is maintained in a serviceable condition and report any faults to the supervisor.
  • Ensure that all vehicles licences are up to date and renewed in good time.
  • Clean assigned vehicle daily.
  • And any other duties as may be assigned by the Official AMESD Counterpart.
