The Kenya WASH Alliance (KWA) is forum set up by NGOs dealing with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) issues for purposes of collaboration, sharing of experiences and advocacy.

KWA in partnership with the Dutch WASH Alliance (DWA) are initiating a five year WASH Programme in Kajiado County. This programme is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Services (MFS) under its MFS 11 Programme of the Netherlands Government.

The objective of the programme is to reduce poverty through improved environmental health and economic conditions by empowering people, and creating an enabling environment aiming at achieving increased sustainable access to and use of safe water and sanitation services and improved hygiene practices for the local community particularly women and marginalised groups.

For effective coordination of activities, the KWA will establish a WASH Secretariat. The secretariat will be governed by a National Steering Committee comprising of six implementing partners.

KWA is looking for a well organised, highly motivated and results oriented individual to join the WASH teams and coordinate the delivery of programme objectives, in the position of Alliance Coordinator. The position reports to the National Steering Committee and is based in Nairobi.

Purpose of the Job

Liaison with other WASH actors to coordinate actions, share experiences and develop joint coherent approaches for sustainable WASH programming in Kenya.

2. A report of specific capacity building needs for S & L implementation at the professional level, recommendation of training area priorities, and a plan for implementing the training for KRA (Customs), KEBS, ACA and NEMA.

Degree of Expertise and Qualifications

The selected Consultant (s) for this assignment shall possess an advanced university degree in Human Resource, Economics, Corporate Communication, Public Relations, Social Sciences or any relevant field. In addition, the consultant shall possess the following skills and competencies:

Shorter-term catheterization would have important implications for service delivery: it would reduce hospital stays for women, free bed space at facilities, reduce costs, allow for a greater number of patients to receive clinical care, and potentially reduce the probability of healthcare-associated infections following surgery.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for overseeing day to day study activities at the site to ensure smooth implementation of the study, safety of study participants, and accuracy of the data.

• Works with the site investigator at the study site to oversee day to day activities of the study and to facilitate effective communication between the study site, the Regional Study Coordinator/Monitor, EngenderHealth/New York, and WHO/Geneva
• Administers informed consent, and interviews research participants
• Manages data collection at the study site, including reviewing Case Report Forms (CRFs) for completeness and accuracy and maintaining study participant files.
• Provides timely and accurate reports to the Regional Study Coordinator/Monitor
• Assists with planning for monitoring visits
• Assists during monitoring visits with review and resolution of questions on the CRFs.
• Works with study site staff to identify problems and resolve those problems identified by staff, as well as during study monitoring visits.
• Works with site staff and the Regional Study Coordinator/Monitor to resolve queries generated by WHO/Geneva during data entry and cleaning
• Assures safe storage of data at the study site
• Oversees follow up of study participants, including scheduling follow-up visits, contacting participants to remind them of upcoming visits, tracing clients who do not return for their scheduled follow-up visit, and distributing transport reimbursements and gifts.
• Performs other tasks involved in conducting the study as assigned

Knowledge Skills and Experience:

• Previous experience working on clinical research study desirable
• Experience conducting interviews or focus group discussions for research purposes
• Successful completion of Research Ethics Training Course in last 6 months desirable

• Comfortable working in a health care facility or clinical environment

Solidarités International is an international humanitarian organization which provides assistance to populations affected by natural disaster or man-made crisis.

For over 30 years, Solidarités International has concentrated its actions on meeting three vital needs: Water, Food and Shelter. In the Horn of Africa, Solidarités International is currently implementing Food Security, Water and Sanitation projects in Somalia and Kenya.

Solidarités International has 2 areas of intervention in Kenya (North Horr and Nairobi informal settlements) and 3 areas of intervention in Somalia (Gedo, Lover Juba and Adaado).

Presentation of the project/ program to be evaluated
Background

SI implemented a first WASH and Food Security intervention in North Horr in 2009. This intervention and was initially designed as a continuation of a DFID funded emergency project in Northern Marsabit which ended in October 2009.

However the funding decision was only taken in October 2010, resulting in a presence gap. SI agreed that the original project objectives, results and most activities were still relevant, DFID and SI agreed to proceed with the project on the provision that a detailed re-assessment of the activities would be done to check the relevance and propose adjustments as needed.

This final evaluation focuses exclusively on this funded phase which started in December 2010.
