Kenya Safari Lodges & Hotels Ltd (KSLH) was incorporated in 1966. Kenya Tourist Development Corporation is the majority shareholder in this Company.

KSLH owns and operates three properties, namely Mombasa Beach Hotel, Mombasa, Voi Safari Lodge, Tsavo East and Ngulia Safari Lodge, Tsavo West.

The Board of Directors seeks to recruit a visionary, qualified, experienced and highly talented professional to fill the position of General Manager of the Company.

Reporting to the KSLH Board the General Manager, will be the accounting officer and will execute managerial and administrative authority over the business operations of the entire company.

S/he will provide strategic leadership by coordinating the activities of the various functions of KSLH to achieve company goals and objectives.

Job Profile
  • Advise the Board on the formulation of KSLH corporate strategy and implementation of sound marketing/sales plans, budgets, financial and operational policies.
  • Lead the senior management team in developing strategies, policies and procedures and the organizational capacity to maximize overall revenues and profitability.
  • Implement the organizational structure and ensure continuous review so that it is consistent with the market trends.
  • Ensure implementation of sound HR policies and practices to maximize the employees’ potential and contributions.
  • Ensure effective and efficient coordination of operational systems and controls. Manage and review the allocation of company resources to ensure that the highest quality of service and product standards are delivered and maintained.
  • Sign performance contracts (PC) with senior management team. Direct and review PC work plans; monitor and evaluate key performance indicators to ensure achievement of desired results
  • Identify applicable legislation and ensure KSLH operations comply with the relevant regulatory framework.
  • Oversee compliance with all professional, ethical, legal and statutory requirements in the conduct of company business.
  • Provide proactive PR and relationship management within the network of local, regional and global business partners and stakeholders
Person Profile
  • A Diploma in Hotel Management from a recognized Institution with a minimum of 10 years broad range of proven relevant experience, 5 years of which must be at senior management level.
  • A degree in Hospitality or Business Management related field with minimum relevant postgraduate experience of 7 years in a busy hotel/hospitality group will be an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years must be at senior management level.
  • Proven ability to develop business plans with excellent analytical and financial data interpretation skills
  • Self - confident professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Wide understanding of the hotel and tourism sector.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office and computerized hotel accounting and reservation systems

Principle Responsibility & Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Food and Beverage Manager, the holder of this position will be responsible for managing, directing and organizing restaurant operations to maintain high standards of food and beverage quality, service and marketing to maximize profits through outstanding customer service.

Essential Functions:
  • Maximizes restaurants’ profitability; implements effective controls of food, beverage, and labour costs and monitors the restaurant’s budget to ensure efficient operations, including achieving budgeted revenue and labour expenses.
  • Develops and implements cost saving and profit enhancement measures for the restaurants.
  • Regularly reviews and evaluates the degree of customer satisfaction of the restaurant; recommends and implements new marketing and/or operational policies and procedures when necessary to keep up with demand and market changes; investigates and resolves food quality and service complaints. Interacts positively with customers.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures that relate to the restaurant as well as all laws and regulations; responsible for ensuring cleanliness and proper sanitation of all work and service areas.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and marketing of new and creative menus to attract a pre-determined customer market; promotes the cross-selling of other hotel outlets and the company.
  • Conduct all administration work including but not limited to attendance records, duty roasters, guests history records and log books.
Qualification Standards:
  • University degree in Hotel Management or equivalent.
  • At least five years experience in related field preferred. Hotel restaurant management experience preferred.
  • Experience with supervision of employees required.
  • Must be conversant with Micros POS.
  • Knowledge about the facilities of the Hilton Hotels worldwide and Hilton Nairobi in particular will be an added advantage.
Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Outgoing, punctual, people oriented, excellent communication skills, customer focused, excellent administration skills.
  • Knowledge of restaurant operations including foods, beverages, supervisory aspects, service techniques and guest interaction.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with guests and employees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and to collect accurate information and to resolve problems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.
  • Interpersonal skills to provide overall guest satisfaction.

IOM Guest House and Accommodation Manager Job in Dadaab, Kenya

Functional Title: Guest House and Accommodation Manager

Duty Station: Dadaab, Kenya

Duration of Assignment: 3 months

Project Description:

IOM Dadaab Sub Office is currently expanding its guest facilities and constructing a staff cafeteria and restaurant for use by IOM staff and guests. IOM intends to hire a Restaurant and Accommodation Manager to manage both the accommodation and restaurant facilities.

It has been proposed that IOM hires a consultant in addition to the Restaurant and Accommodation Manager to assist with the initial set up of the facilities in as quick and efficient manner as possible.

General Functions:

Under the supervision of the Head of Operations and the direction of the Head of Sub Office Dadaab, the incumbent will be responsible for the setting up and establishment of guest house and restaurant facilities at IOM Dadaab.

In particular they will:
  • Assessment of the current set up ( gaps/needs)
  • Recommend/develop implementation plans, budget, costing, acquisition/purchase of materials, promotional campaign, brochures.
  • Develop implementing procedures, manuals, and guidelines on guest and restaurant operations.
  • Develop a training manual and written SOPs for all guest house and restaurant staff
  • Assist in the recruitment and train staff
  • Manage start up operations
  • Restaurant and Guesthouse Launching
  • Perform any other duties as maybe assigned.
Outputs/ deliverables
  • First instalment of 25% to be paid upon signing of contract.
  • Second Instalment of 25% to be paid upon completion of implementation plan and development of SOPs as outlined in points 2.1 through 2.3;
  • Third instalment of 50% to be paid upon implementation of recommendations and launch of facilities as indicated in points 2.4 through 2.6;
Desirable qualifications
  • A degree in Hotel Management; Food and Beverage Management; or a similar area of study
  • A minimum of five years experience working in or running a busy and respectable restaurant;
  • A minimum 2 years experience in managing property or accommodation facilities;
  • Excellent report writing skills;
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
