Position Summary:
In addition to filling in for the Chief of Party as needed, the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will also be responsible for staff supervision, capacity building, mentoring and training, including both MSI core staff as well as Institutionally-Contracted Staff (ICS) that work closely with USAID. As part of the duties, the DCOP is expected to give overall supervision to administrative and financial staff, with the assistance of senior staff who fall under that purview. The position is based in Juba, Sudan.
Responsibilities:
- Mentor and supervise staff, with an emphasis on capacity building
- Develop training plans; facilitate and do performance appraisals; participate in the hiring process
- Assist in developing strong, yet flexible procedures and systems
- Directly supervise staff on the Finance and Administration Team
- Ensure smooth coordination and communication between the administrative team and ICS staff
- Assist with quarterly and annual reporting for the entire team
- Along with the COP, provide strong customer support to USAID client
- Participate in SUPPORT Technical Team Meetings
- Backstop Technical Team, as necessary
Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years development and project management experience
- Prior experience as a DCOP or Team Leader desirable, particularly on USAID-funded projects.
- Ability to back-stop technical teams in Monitoring and Evaluation and Communications
- Experience supervising a significant number of staff
- Experience in mentoring and developing the capacity of local staff
- Deep understanding of USAID regulations and procedures
- Experience in post-conflict situations and living in challenging posts
- Ability to work well in a team environment under considerable pressure
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- English fluency required.
